Rain makes it rain, while MTN left me high and dry
Last Friday I took the plunge to log on to Rain's site to subscribe to their 5G offer. It is a month-by-month, no-obligation offer that includes free use of the router. Vodacom only offers contracts, and by then I had given up on ever being able to convince MTN to take my money for a more expensive Fixed LTE deal. I never considered Rain, because I believed for some reason they weren't available in my area yet. Then I discovered that not only were they covering my area, but 5G was available, and I experienced service that convinced me to write my first public review: The Rain 5G offers on the website were intuitive enough, but I was vacillating between two offers and needed to talk to a human being. I ticked the box for a call-back and promptly received a call from an agent, who identified herself just as Zamaswazi. She was absolutely brilliant in helping be distill my needs down into something I could match up with one of the offers available. While we were still speaking, the email with the payment link arrived from her. I completed the payment there and then and she wrapped the sale up extremely professionally, telling me that they don't deliver over weekends, so I could expect the delivery on Monday, latest Wednesday, if something happened to delay it. She is a credit to Rain. But the story does not end there: On Saturday I saw people dressed in Rain-branded T-shirts wandering around Willowbridge Shopping Centre, in the Tygervalley-area of Cape Town's Northern suburbs, engaging shoppers in discussions. They were clearly busy with an activation of sorts. I called one over to the restaurant where I was sitting and put what I thought was a long shot suggestion to him: Was it possible to take the Rain order number I had in an order-confirmation email on my phone, disrupt their logistics process to stop the delivery that might already be heading my way, RICA me on the spot and rather give me a router and SIM from the stock they must surely have with them for the activation? Within minutes friendly, young people were sitting at my table, furiously typing away on a laptop and speaking into mobile phones, making arrangements. Long story short: Stephan and France (like the country) and Cassie in the back office on the other end of the phone, made it happen for me. By the time I had finished my breakfast I left that table with a router under my arm and my SIM already activated. This was not an incremental extra sale for them. It was a client that was in the bag already, but they went all out to make it happen for me. This is service beyond the call of duty. Compare this to MTN who in a month-and-a-half couldn't get me processed for FLTE in a formal MTN shop. First the deal codes were not live - for the whole of August, while the actual deal was only valid for August. Then the deal was extended for September, but the system would not process the sale, because it somehow didn't believe that FLTE was available for my address. Six weeks in, and after multiple visits to the shop, all I had from MTN were promises that I would be called as soon as the problem was resolved - which never happened. Then I gave up on them and tried Rain. Thank Goodness for that! Not only was Rain's service brilliant, the 5G is excellent and the router costs me nothing. And it is a month-by-month deal. No contracts and long-term commitments. It is a no-brainer, actually. May you go from strength to strength, Rain. In fact, there's no maybe about it. With products and people like yours, it is basically guaranteed.
