Rain is *****ing candy from South African babies. STAY AWAY!
Rain shows a severe lack in scalability with their new so-called "5G Rollout". Not only are their support staff inadequate, the lack of professionalism even trickles down to their distribution partner, RAM.
On 18 April 2020 I received an email from Rain confirming that our area has 5G coverage. On 13 May 2020 my order for the "unlimited home 5G premium" was confirmed and paid for. On 15 May 2020 my parcel was delivered and ready to be installed. So far, so good.
I tried installing the 5G router as per the instruction manual. To my complete confusion, I could not find signal anywhere, I even tried extension chords and placed the device on SEVERAL roofs on our property. Is Rain misleading consumers with their coverage advertising? I tried phoning the company for support, but all phones were disconnected during lockdown. Surprise surprise.
On 15 May 2020 I reached out to their "support team" to try and resolve the issue. On 18 May 2020 Rain rep**** for the first time with a generic message not at all related to my questions about signal. I rep**** asking for a refund as their product was not working and I was out of pocket R999. After a frustrating back and forth about my authority as the account holder, on 20 May 2020 I was told that RAM would have to collect the device, run diagnostics, and if the device was found intact I would be refunded. I advised the support staff to proceed with cancellation and arrange for logistics to collect the device for diagnostics. On 4 June 2020 I followed up on the support query as I had not been contacted by any logistics team. On 17 July 2020 I followed up again, as I had not been contacted by a logistics team. Keep in mind that this marks the almost 2 month mark after having ordered and PAID for a service not rendered.
On 3 September 2020 I was contacted by a different support staff member, asking if I still require assistance. STILL no movement on the issue. I immediately responded and reiterated the problem history. The staff member told me the query had been escalated. On 8 September 2020 the query was closed with no explanation, I had still not been contacted by the logistics team. I reopened the query immediately and expressed frustration. I received a response that collection had been logged with RAM and received a tracking number. Finally, some movement! Or so I thought.
I followed up on the collection request via the RAM tracking number and to my surprise, the collection request was cancelled on 9 September 2020 by RAM, with the following descriptions:
10:21 - COLLECTION ASSIGNED TO SAMBO, JUSTICE COOPER (FN91FDGP). 11:08 - COLLECTION NOT COLLECTED: Cancelled - Already Collected. 04:56 - COLLECTION CANCELLED BY THEMBENI - COLLECTED 4 MONTHS AGO AS PER CLIENT AND MAIL SENT. 05:04 - COLLECTION CANCELLED BY THEMBENI - DUPLICATE RAIN08-***0.
On 14 September 2020 I responded to the Rain query with photo evidence that the device has still not been collected. On 15 September 2020 the staff member rep**** and said they had re-escalated. On 17 September 2020 the staff member rep****, and sent me the same RAM tracking number as before. There still has been no movement according to the RAM tracking page. The device is still in my home.
As an IT professional, I had to work from home during the lockdown period. I had thought a high speed Rain 5G connection would make that possible. I was mistaken, Rain is still wearing baby shoes AND *****ing from consumers in the process.
