Rain is ****ming customers.
According to my profile, multiple consultants I spoke to, and repeated confirmations from Rain itself, I am on a PREPAID plan, meaning services are paid for in advance. As I have always done, I paid at the end of January for my February service. On 29 January 2026, the very same day I made payment, I called Rain to request a cancellation at the end of February, since that month had already been paid for.
So why did I wake up on 31 January to find my service already cancelled?
I specifically requested cancellation after February, not immediately. Rain cancelled my service prematurely, despite payment already being made for that month. This is unacceptable and misleading.
To make matters worse, Rain’s service throughout my entire time with them was extremely poor, average speeds of 2Mbps download and 2Mbps upload daily. Despite this, I endured the service because I had no immediate alternative. Rain is expensive for absolutely no good reason. The network is unreliable, barely works, and consistently underperforms. It is honestly mind-blowing how customers are expected to trust a company that delivers such poor quality while charging premium prices. The reputation speaks for itself, worst network experience ever.
When I contacted Rain to request a refund for the month they cancelled without notice, I was suddenly told that I am being billed in arrears and therefore not eligible for a refund. This makes no sense. When did my plan change? I have always been on a prepaid plan, and that is how I have always paid. Either Rain does not understand the meaning of prepaid, or they deliberately misuse the term for marketing purposes and conveniently change the narrative when it benefits them.
To top it off, both the consultants and their manager refused to provide their names, claiming that Rain does not allow staff to share this information. This is extremely concerning. According to the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, I am entitled to know the identity of the consultant I am dealing with, especially when disputes arise regarding my personal and financial information. If full names cannot be provided, a lawful alternative must be given.
So is Rain implying that they are above South African law?
My rights as a consumer have been violated. I paid for a service in advance, that service was cancelled without my consent, I was denied a refund, and I was given conflicting and misleading information by multiple representatives.
This is ****ming behavior, plain and simple.
I strongly advise potential customers to think twice before dealing with Rain.
