Misleading “First Month Free” Promotion – Hidden Charges & Fine Print
I recently wanted to sign up for Rain’s “First Month Free” promotion under the impression that I would get a full month of service at no cost, as advertised. However, after reading the fine print and seeing the actual charges, I feel the promotion is highly misleading.
Despite the promise of a R1 joining fee and a “free” month, Rain applies a pro-rata charge based on activation and billing dates. This means you still end up paying part of your subscription during what is supposed to be a free month. This is not clearly stated in the advertising and is only revealed in the terms and conditions under technical language that most customers won’t catch at first glance.
Furthermore, if you cancel during the so-called “free month,” you forfeit the rest of the credit, which makes it even less of a true free offer.
This kind of marketing is misleading and feels like a bait-and-switch. A truly free month should mean zero charges — not a complicated system that results in partial payments and forfeited credits. I’m very disappointed in Rain’s lack of transparency and believe this promotion should be reworded or removed altogether.
I urge others to read the fine print carefully and for Rain to stop advertising this as a "free" month when it's clearly not.
We're sorry your rain experience hasn't been as good as you expected.
