Misleading and dishonest billing practices

I have a promise to pay with Rain which I indicated to them I wanted to settle at once end of the month of May, however due to unforeseen circumstances, I couldn’t.

This failure to pay comes after an entire month of May of no internet due to not paying for the month. Rain then goes on to debit R90 from my account to allocate towards the promise to pay from the last card (not the one saved on the website) I used to pay for April.

I disputed that both with the bank and Rain. I was called by a Rain agent, explained to him that I did not consent to the debit from that account. He stammeringly said that “maybe the system automatically saved the card details but it shouldn’t have”. He promised to resolve it. This is during May when I did not have internet connection due to non-payment.

Come 26th May, I paid R620 (which miraculously increased from R579 with no explanation but anyway, discussion for another day). I got reconnected again instantly. Fast forward to today (1st June) early in the morning, a debit of R620 goes off from the account I already objected Rain from debiting from. How because I have already paid?!

I called the bank as soon as the customer care opened - I was told they cannot stop it on their side because it is a subscription - I have to speak to Rain. I called Rain to speak to a very rude agent called Joey. Did she not dismiss me? Before dismissing me she tells me that the payment I made on the 26th was for the month of May because whether you used the internet or not, the billing stays active.

What does she mean by this because this is a month-to-month? I don’t want to use this month for whatever reason, I don’t pay, that’s it. This is how it has been for the past 4 years or so with Rain.

She tells me the debit that had gone off of the account today was for June. Then dismissed me insisting that even if she escalates the matter, it is an invalid escalation. I ask her to log a call for a refund or for a reallocation of the R620 paid on May 26th towards the promise to pay, she refuses.

I insisted that she escalates it. An hour after the call, another debit of R90 goes off from my account. Somebody what the hell is Rain doing to me? And then after an hour or 2, I get an email pertaining to the escalation narrating how my payment made on the 26th was being allocated for the month of May which I did not use. I did not use not because I had switched off the router, or was not home, no, because they had switched off the internet due to non-payment.

I cannot wait to cancel this slow network with zero TCF skills. Rain is horrible with customer service and is misleading its customers.
