Disappointing performance from Rain 5G

I recently subscribed to Rain's 101 5G service, anticipating a significant upgrade in my internet connectivity. However, my experience has been far from satisfactory, prompting this detailed review.

Installation and Activation: Purchased on a Wednesday, collected on Thursday, the service only became operational late Friday afternoon. This delay was unexpected and inconvenient.

Performance Metrics: 1. Speed: Despite paying for a 30Mbps line speed, the highest speed I've recorded is a mere 1.3Mbps. This represents a mere 4.3% of the advertised speed, which is unacceptable by any standard.

2. Download Rates: Attempting to download a movie through Opera Mini browser, I observed download speeds in Kbps rather than the expected Mbps. This performance is reminiscent of outdated dial-up connections, not a cutting-edge 5G service.

Technical Specifications: 1. Router: The provided 5GHz router, despite its advanced specifications, fails to deliver on its promised capabilities. 2. Tower Proximity: My nearest tower is approximately 350 meters away, visible from my bedroom window where the router is optimally placed for best reception.

Comparative Analysis: My previous service with Vuma, utilizing a 2.4GHz router, consistently delivered speeds up to 5Mbps. The fact that a supposedly superior 5G service underperforms compared to a more basic offering is deeply concerning.

Financial Considerations: At R625 per month, this service represents poor value for money. The disparity between the cost and the delivered performance is stark and unjustifiable.

Legal and Consumer Rights Perspective: The significant discrepancy between advertised and actual speeds potentially breaches consumer protection laws. Subscribers are entitled to services that substantially align with marketing claims and contractual agreements.

Conclusion: Based on my documented experience, I cannot recommend Rain's 5G service. The combination of delayed activation, subpar performance, and failure to meet advertised speeds renders this service inadequate for modern internet needs. Potential customers should carefully consider these factors before committing to a subscription.
