Congrats Rain, you've managed to outdo Telkom in the awfulness of your service.
"Hi , we're sorry you are unable to get into the stadium to watch the cricket. Unfortunately it only holds 20 000 people and 40 000 people bought tickets. We cannot control how many people buy tickets, but if you come back at 1am tomorrow morning you should be able to get a seat." That sounds pretty feeble, doesn't it? But this is the message I got from my ISP, Rain, after complaining that my download speed had dropped from 6mps to between 0bps and 5kbs: "Hi, "Thank you for contacting us at rain. We apologize for the experience. "Please be advised that the reason your connection is as it is currently, is because you're connected to a tower with high data traffic. Thus, forcing the towers to share their full capacity in terms of speed. Unfortunately, we don't have control over data traffic, that's the usage generated by the users in your area. "Cheers "rain South Africa" Seriously? The reason I cannot get internet access is because of the selfish behaviour of other people in this town? Rain, you stink. Cheers. (Only able to post this message after tethering my cell phone and using my limited Telkom data).
We're really sorry your rain experience hasn't been as good as you expected.

Please follow the below steps to Optimize your device connection, this will help you point your device into the right direction of your closest tower.
-Restart your device then monitor your connection"
I say:
" No, it is not my device connection. I had already optimised it and I have a more or less consistent three out of five bars (sometimes four) and this seems to have no impact on the speed. I assume your call centre operative was telling the truth when she said too many people are using your service here and that particular tower is overloaded."
They then ask me for my location, and I give it to them.
They reply (privately):
"Please note the tower in your area is up and working, please test your sim on a different 4G capable device and test the connection."
For crying out loud, Rain, I know the tower is operational! I get a good signal from it, as mentioned above. I am not going to go and purchase a new router. Stop trying to make out that this is my fault or the fault of my router! You are absolutely pathetic. I have three bars out of five right now and a download speed of 5kbs. It is clear from the very many complaints here and on Facebook that you pull this same nonsense with all your clients. TAKE. SOME. RESPONSIBILITY>
