Appallingly slow. Avoid at all costs.

I have used Rain 4G for four months in Stellenbosch (out of necessity), and I have never seen speeds above 4Mbps. Most of the time, it is less than 2Mbps, and right now Rain's own speed test rates them at 0.5Mbps. These tragic speeds are not an uncommon occurrence. Video conferencing? Prepare to have your colleagues tell you that you're breaking up. Youtube or Twitch streaming? Forget about it, even at 160p. Netflix? Hahahaha! Hope you enjoy watching that red circle. And reporting slow speeds to customer service does nothing (probably because there is nothing they can do).

But hang on, you argue, internet use has spiked during lockdown. Slower speeds are expected. Sure. However, I also have a Vodacom 4G account, which consistently gets 4-8Mbps. Not lightning fast, but good enough for video calls, streaming and the like. It's a sad day in the month when my Vodacom account runs out of data, and I am forced to switch to Rain. I can't wait for 1 September.
