Where did you get my number from?

A few weeks ago I got a call on my unlisted landline from Mobiles Plus. My sister answered and proceeded to ask the agent where she had got my number from. The woman was very rude and unforthcoming. She refused to answer - and I'm pretty sure companies are required by law to tell you where they obtained your number from. I contacted Mobiles Plus on their Facebook page. They took the conversation offline, and still did not want to tell me where they got my number from, all they offered was to remove the number from their database. Eventually, after having to threaten them with a lawyer, I was given the name of a company who they bought my number from. I checked up on the company, Telegenix, and couldn't find any details about them. I contacted Mobiles Plus again about this, and they said the company went out of business - convenient. I posted the story on my personal Facebook page to let other people know what had happened, and noticed that Mobiles Plus had removed my complaint from their Facebook page, and banned me as well - so I had no way of contacting them. I posted again from a different account, and they deleted that comment and banned me again. LOVE THE PROFESSIONALISM!!
