Complaint: Lack of follow-up and communication regarding my ongoing medical condition I am writing this complaint because I feel extremely frustrated, disappointed and neglected by the lack of follow-up I have received at Mitchells Plain Hospital. I was diagnosed with a third-nerve palsy which has resulted in a persistent drooping eyelid. I have undergone several investigations, including multiple blood tests, scans and a lumbar puncture. I was also told that some of my blood samples had to be repeated because there was apparently a problem with the samples, and additional blood was taken again. My concern is that I still do not know what happened with the subsequent blood tests or whether the relevant samples were sent to Groote Schuur Hospital for further investigation. I have never been given clear information about the results or what the next step is. I was supposed to have follow-up at the hospital and was told that an appointment would be arranged for me. However, every time I contact the hospital, I am asked for my contact number again and told that an appointment will be booked. I have provided my number repeatedly, but I still have not received a confirmed appointment. This has been extremely distressing because my condition is ongoing and the drooping of my eyelid has affected my confidence and my daily life. I am unemployed and cannot afford to keep going from one hospital or private specialist to another simply trying to get answers. I am not asking for special treatment. I am asking for proper communication, follow-up and clarity about my medical care. I would like Mitchells Plain Hospital to please investigate what has happened with my follow-up, confirm the status of my outstanding investigations, and provide me with a clear appointment or referral for appropriate specialist assessment. I hope someone from the hospital will take this complaint seriously and assist me, because I have been trying to get help through the normal channels for a long time.

I’ve been trying to contact Sunflower Ward since yesterday with no answer. When I approached the nurse at the station ,***, she responded in a dismissive and unhelpful manner and gave me this number while mentioning that the switchboard is not working. I have also been trying to call on previous days without success. This lack of communication is very frustrating

My father was left sitting on a hard plastic chair for hours and hours, not even a bed, A CHAIR!. He is so swollen because who can sit upright in a chair from hours on end?. He had a mild heart the day before as well as cellulitis all over his body which is extremely painful. He begged for hours to the nurses and doctors for pain medication but they just ignored him. The doctors even said he must just wait yet they know how bad his condition is as they took x-rays where they saw his heart is enlarged. How do we get a referral to such a hospital where patients just get ignored?! We are humans with feelings as well! Should someone first drop dead to get assistance? This is the treatment received when we do not have medical aid or insurance. All we asking for is help as we can not do it ourselves which we would have if we knew what to do! You are doctors and nurses for a reason! To say this is horrible is still being nice as it is beyond that. Where do we go for help now ?? Where ?

Well being in hospital from 7.30am in the morning until 2.30pm with my daughter having a headache for more than two weeks and I was told that this is not first come and first serve hospital. Doctors being arrogant and not being lenient with the people is disgusting and unprofessional and I do Want to state that the doctor I dealt with and I ended up leaving without my child being help by Dr A Rancho, she even let two people sign unauthorized discharge form for them delaying for soo much hours.
