Great service every time all the time

In September 2026 I again took my second VW to Mayfair Silvertondale where a lady Maydine assisted me with my VW Polo's clutch repairs. She send drivers to collect my car and bring it for me after the clutch was done. She updated me on the progress and she was always friendly and helpfull. These people are all very professional in their work. The best experience I ever had. Thank you. I gave them a 5 star for great service. Well done.

FORMAL COMPLAINT REGARDING REPEATED REPAIRS, FURTHER DAMAGE AND FAILURE TO RESOLVE GEARBOX ISSUES

FORMAL COMPLAINT REGARDING REPEATED REPAIRS, FURTHER DAMAGE AND FAILURE TO RESOLVE GEARBOX ISSUES To: Mayfair Gearbox Management I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding the repairs carried out on my 2014 Ford Kuga, the subsequent damage and mechanical problems that arose after the vehicle was in your possession, and the significant additional costs I have incurred as a result. What was initially presented to me as a straightforward gearbox oil leak repair has now resulted in repeated mechanical failures, further repairs, considerable financial loss, and serious concerns regarding the quality and standard of the work performed on my vehicle. 1. Initial gearbox problem – July 2025 In July 2025, I noticed that my vehicle was leaking gearbox oil. I initially took the vehicle to Ford Krugersdorp and also consulted several other mechanics. I was advised that, due to the age of my 2014 Ford Kuga, Ford no longer carried out certain repairs on the vehicle and that it would need to be attended to by a third-party gearbox specialist, as they no longer had the necessary tools to perform the repair. After asking around for recommendations, Mayfair Gearbox came highly recommended. I contacted Mayfair Gearbox and specifically asked questions regarding the repair process and expected turnaround time. I subsequently drove to your branch and spoke to one of your consultants. My vehicle was assessed while at your premises, and I was advised that there was indeed a gearbox oil leak and that the vehicle required repair. As this vehicle is my only form of transport, I specifically asked how long the repair would take. I was told face-to-face that the turnaround time would be approximately 3–5 days. I therefore booked the vehicle in for the required repair on the understanding that I would have it back within this timeframe. When I dropped the vehicle off on 28 July 2025, I was then advised that the turnaround time would be 5–7 days. Although this was longer than originally indicated, I accepted this and made alternative arrangements by renting a vehicle. Despite this, I did not receive my vehicle within the promised timeframe. After numerous telephone calls and repeated explanations, including references to "month end", I eventually received my vehicle back on Thursday, 7 August 2025 — approximately ten days after it was booked in. 2. Damage to the bonnet When the vehicle was delivered to my office, the first obvious issue I noticed was significant damage to the bonnet. I acknowledge that the bonnet already had some sun damage prior to the vehicle being taken to Mayfair Gearbox. However, the condition in which the vehicle was returned to me was substantially worse. My grey vehicle effectively appeared to have a white bonnet, with extensive visible marks and damage across the surface. There were also numerous new scratches over the bonnet, together with a powdery substance covering the area. I immediately contacted the Manager at Mayfair Gearbox to raise my concerns and ask what had happened to my vehicle. I was told that they would look into the complaint and view the video footage and too date, I have had no feedback regarding my complaint. My initial thoughts are, after the vehicle had been standing at your premises for close to two weeks, the people washing the vehicles apparently believed that something had fallen or been deposited on the bonnet and proceeded to scrub it. Regardless of the intention, the fact remains that the vehicle was returned to me with additional damage that was not present to that extent when I handed the vehicle over. This was particularly concerning because the vehicle had been entrusted to Mayfair Gearbox for mechanical repairs and was expected to be returned to me in at least the same condition in which it was received, apart from the agreed mechanical work. 3. Vehicle returned with further serious mechanical problems Unfortunately, the bonnet damage was only the beginning. I drove home after the vehicle was delivered to me and immediately noticed that something did not feel or sound right. As I had various school-related activities that day, I had no choice but to continue driving the vehicle. The more I drove, the worse the noise became. By the following morning, the noise had become significantly worse. I arranged for a mechanic to test-drive the vehicle, at which point I was advised that there appeared to be a problem with the wheel bearings. I also took the vehicle to a tyre service centre and asked them to place it on a lift so that the problem could be properly inspected. What they found was extremely concerning. I was advised that the right wheel was extremely loose and that, according to the assessment I received, the condition was sufficiently serious that the wheel could potentially have detached. Even more concerning was the fact that gearbox oil was still leaking from the vehicle, despite having just paid approximately R32,000 for the gearbox repair, which had only been completed the day before. In other words, the primary problem for which I had entrusted my vehicle to Mayfair Gearbox had not been resolved. My husband immediately contacted Mayfair Gearbox and requested that the vehicle be collected. I specifically requested that: The gearbox oil leak be properly repaired, as this was the original reason for the repair and was clearly still present; and The wheel bearings be replaced, as the vehicle had not been handed over to Mayfair Gearbox in the condition in which it was returned to me. 3. We also requested that the evaluate the damage done to the bonnet and revert back to us. Mayfair Gearbox subsequently collected the vehicle, carried out further work, and returned it to me a few days later. At that point, I believed the issues had finally been resolved. 4. Further failures discovered in 2026 Unfortunately, this was not the case. In November 2025, I underwent a major back operation and was subsequently bedridden for approximately three months. During this period, my vehicle was effectively standing unused. When I returned to work at the end of February 2026, I began driving the vehicle again. By March 2026, the strange noises had once again become apparent. I took the vehicle to a mechanic for a thorough inspection. The findings were extremely concerning. I was advised that there was serious damage to the propshaft unit, as well as loose and missing bolts in the gearbox. Most concerning of all, the vehicle was still leaking gearbox oil. This was despite the fact that the gearbox had already been repaired by Mayfair Gearbox and that I had already paid approximately R32,000 for the original repair. I was therefore forced to incur a further R22,586.00 in repair costs. This included: Reconditioning of the propshaft; Further servicing of the gearbox; Replacement/addition of gearbox oil; and Securing the loose and missing gearbox bolts. At this point, I had already incurred substantial costs dealing with problems that should have been resolved by the original repair. 5. Wheel bearings failing again At the beginning of August 2026, the strange noise in the vehicle returned once again. I took the vehicle back to the mechanic for another inspection. I was then informed that the wheel bearings needed to be replaced again. This is extremely concerning. The wheel bearings had previously been replaced by Mayfair Gearbox following the problems identified immediately after the original repair. I have travelled less than 10,000 km since those wheel bearings were supposedly replaced. I am not a mechanical expert, and I do not wish to make assumptions about the exact expected lifespan of a wheel bearing, as this can depend on various factors. However, the fact that wheel bearings replaced following the original Mayfair Gearbox repair have apparently failed again after less than 10,000 km raises very serious questions about the quality of the replacement parts, the installation, or whether the underlying issue was properly diagnosed and addressed in the first place. 6. Overall concern At this stage, I have had to deal with: A gearbox repair costing approximately R32,000; A gearbox oil leak that was still present immediately after the repair; Wheel bearings that required replacement immediately after the vehicle was returned to me; Damage to my vehicle's bonnet while it was in Mayfair Gearbox's possession; Subsequent serious propshaft damage; Loose and missing gearbox bolts; Further gearbox servicing and replacement gearbox oil; A further R22,586.00 in repair costs; and Wheel bearings apparently requiring replacement again after less than 10,000 km. The combined financial, practical and safety implications of this situation are unacceptable. What concerns me most is not simply the amount of money I have spent. It is the fact that my vehicle has repeatedly developed serious mechanical problems following work performed by or after being in the possession of Mayfair Gearbox, including problems directly relating to the gearbox work for which I originally paid a substantial amount of money. I entrusted my vehicle to Mayfair Gearbox based on recommendations and on the understanding that I was dealing with a specialist company. I expected the vehicle to be properly assessed, repaired to an appropriate professional standard, and returned to me in a safe and roadworthy condition. Instead, I have experienced a series of recurring problems and have been required to spend a substantial additional amount of money attempting to rectify issues that should reasonably have been resolved as part of the original repair. 7. Requested resolution I therefore request that Mayfair Gearbox formally investigate this matter and provide me with a written response addressing the following: A complete breakdown of the work performed on my vehicle during the original repair in July/August 2025; The parts that were replaced, including the manufacturer/brand and specification of those parts where applicable; An explanation as to why the gearbox was still leaking immediately after the R32,000 repair; An explanation as to how the loose and missing gearbox bolts were overlooked; An explanation regarding the subsequent propshaft damage; An explanation regarding the wheel bearings that were replaced following the original repair and why they have apparently failed again after less than 10,000 km; A response regarding the additional damage to my bonnet while the vehicle was in your possession; Copies of any inspection reports, job cards, invoices and records relating to the work performed on my vehicle; and Most importantly, a fair and appropriate resolution to the financial loss and inconvenience I have suffered as a result of these ongoing issues. I would also like Mayfair Gearbox to address whether the work originally performed on my vehicle was carried out in accordance with the appropriate professional standards and whether the subsequent failures could reasonably be connected to the work performed at your premises. Unfortunately, the repeated recurrence of serious mechanical problems has now left me with very little confidence in the repairs that were carried out. I am therefore requesting that this complaint be treated as a formal matter requiring investigation by senior management, rather than as a routine service query. I look forward to receiving your written response within a reasonable period and, in particular, to receiving a clear explanation as to how a vehicle that was entrusted to Mayfair Gearbox for a R32,000 gearbox repair could subsequently experience repeated gearbox-related problems, loose and missing bolts, propshaft damage and repeated wheel-bearing failures. I trust that Mayfair Gearbox will take this matter seriously and will work towards a fair resolution.

Seeking Assistancetance regarding the Greabox

Hellow Peter, kindly assist in the following matter I took a VW polo gearbox for a repair to Mayfair Gearbox in Mpangeni(Station) last month on 9/6/2026. They then sent me two quotations one got 3 months warranty and was costing R8 625.00 and the other one was a 6month warranty amounting R14 375.00 I then chose the 1st one paid R6000.00. They kept the gear box for 3weeks without updates what so ever, I ended up phoning them for follow up, they said” they were very sorry for delays, on of their technician went home due to emergency reasons” of was very odd to me. On that 3rd week (Friday), I was then told the told to settle the amount n collect the box. I did that and I even hired someone to collect it. Unfortunately they refused to give him the box saying my payment doesn’t reflect despite proof of payment issued of which I understood as said sometime client reverses the money. They were kind enough to send my box to the taxi rank the following day although he never paid for that taxi, I did. I received the box and send it straight to the mechanic that day. Luckily he wasn’t that busy than started to work on it. Unfortunately I shortly received a call that the gear is wide open not fixed at all. I came back, took pictures and video and sent to the Indian guy from Mayfair, i forgot his name. He started being supper aggressive and said the gearbox was properly fix he checked it before sending it, that guy who’s helping me is just a bush mechanic…. I said sir can we switch to video call so that I can at-least the show you where the problem is , because I couldn’t properly explain as I know nothing about cars and the language bearer between the mechanic and the Indian guy( I’m very sorry for that of course, I just forgot his name)was a problem. As soon as he saw the problem he then told me to wait n promise to come back to in an hours time. I waited for the day up until the next day of is Monday. I sent him a WhatsApp indicating that I’m not happy with the service received I even sent the email pleading for a refund, stating all the reasons, and that wasn’t ready to wait another 4 weeks for them to fix it. He ignored my messages and told me he is sorry for everything happened, he then arranged a car to come collect it. The next to days they told me the box was fixed, I told them to bring it. They are no drivers available they the sent it via taxi rank again. I collected it and took it back the mechanic again. The next day mechanic to told he is not happy with the gearbox’s diff it’s too stiff(hard) to twist. I phone guy from Mayfair they said it will loosen up. The mechanics did exactly that and landed the car back to me. It was ok no weird sounds even the gears were perfectly fine. The following day i drove it to work no problems that indicated. It was the next day where I got Doctors appointment in EMpangeni. I drove all the from Hlabisa with not problems at all. The problem started when I came from Doctors appointment by the 4way stop the car refused to take all the gears. After a while I manages to escape the traffic as I got lucky it was able to atleast pick the R gear. I then phone the very same Indian guy to help out. They were kind enough help me, they took the car to their warehouse to examine it. After while they told it’s not a gearbox but a small container that bypasses the fuel. He said i has that small container i do not need to go gans because it gonna be costly more. He estimated R1 500.00 he said if i give him 700 he will fix it quick for me. I said go ahead. In 20 minutes time he phoned n told me it’s all sorted and that I must send the money via cash send. I did that. I took then took a car. To me it was ok until the next day when I was driving to the wedding in Richards Bay, just when I off ramped on a gravel road I started hearing weird sound coming from the front. I drove very slowly as I wasn’t sure what wrong and there was no signal to even make a phone call, I managed to make it the event. The mechanic managed to check and discovered the gearbox mounting below was missing. I then phone the Indian guy again reporting the matter he promise to get me help but never showed. I managed to get hold of my mechanic he fixed that mounting but then the discovered the very same gearbox is leaking in between silicone the used to bind the box. I told the Indian guy again via WhatsApp, he simply blue ticked me. Today I asked a friend who recommended them for me to tell them I’m not happy with all the treatment received, I then received a call from the very same Indian guy asking where the gearbox licks I sent him photo and videos of it. He simply rep**** “ that’s the mechanic’s problem not theirs, even the mounting thing he said it’s the mechanic who forgot putting it yet the car was last touched by them at the their warehouse. I strongly feel like this is a sabotage as I never chose the 6month warranty quotation. And also I feel they are taking advantage of the fact that I’m a women.

Poor quality check on repairs.

Chery Lephalale then removed the gearbox and sent it for repairs, which was 3 months ago, and the gearbox was sent back without a proper quality check done; the gearbox had no seal, thus the repair is delayed due to this unprofessional company. For 4 months now, I have been without a car. I wouldn't recommend anyone to your company due to their poor after-sale service.

Awaiting Clarity and Resolution on Gearbox Assessment – Request for Engagement

If I could, I would rate the Germiston branch an unfortunate 0 I recently engaged Mayfair Gearbox to assess a faulty gearbox removed from my vehicle by my mechanic. At the time, the understanding was that the issue related specifically to the gearbox, and only that component required assessment. Mayfair collected the unit, including the prop shaft, and proceeded to perform a strip/assessment of the gearbox. At a later stage, I was informed that they were unable to proceed further with the repair, and we were asked to part ways. I was still required to pay for the assessment and stripping, which I did. Upon collection of the unit, I noted that additional components, including the prop shaft, had been disassembled and packed together with the gearbox parts. This was not something that had been clearly communicated or discussed beforehand, and no prior explanation was provided regarding this. Since then, I have been seeking clarity on: What work was performed on all components while in Mayfair’s possession Why components not originally identified as problematic were handled in this manner A fair way forward to resolve the matter I have raised these concerns directly with Mayfair and have received a response, but I am still awaiting a clear explanation on these specific points so that we can close the matter appropriately. Resolution Sought: I am currently seeking: A clear written explanation of the work performed and the condition of the components on return Engagement toward a fair and reasonable resolution I remain open to resolving this matter amicably and hope we can reach a constructive outcome.

Failed Repairs Cost Me My Vehicle – Do Not Trust This Company!

I took my vehicle to Mayfair Gearbox in October/November 2025 to diagnose a faulty gearbox. They quoted me on one of their refurbished units as a solution as they stated that the torque converter failed. Since then up until end of May 2026 the vehicle was still defective after multiple repair attempts and unit replacements. Vehicle had 5 failures and 4 seperate repair attempts were made where the vehicle's gearbox started to show signs of failure within 1000kms. Everytime I was assured that vehicle was repaired correctly only to have it fail afterwards. When I saw that it would be an endless back and forth untill the warranty lapsed, I opted to reject further repair attempts and requested a refund. Their response was to continue with attempts involving 3rd party assistance which prove they lack the technical capability to repair my vehicle yet invoiced me for a repair that was not the solution. To this day they cannot give clear indication of what caused the failures. They tried to use non-oem software on the vehicle as a scapegoat but after they removed the software and loaded the OEM software the vehicle failed again. This company did not have the technical competence to diagnose and repair my vehicle. The continued failures led to major distrust in the reliability of my own vehicle and their ability to repair it successfully to the point where I could have peace of mind beyond their warranty period. They have opted not to refund me and I have subsequently sold my vehicle as the only logical end to this ordeal. My vehicle was paid off and had a full list of overlanding extras that I had to forfeit and settle for a more reliable vehicle. I would not recommend this company if you value your money, your vehicle, and your peace of mind, take your business elsewhere.
