Upgraded without my permission and being charged to "downgrade"
I signed up for a 25 Mbps fibre line in March 2022 with Ballito ISP. The service is provided by Link Layer. In January 2024 with no prior communication the line was “upgraded” to a 50Mbps line and the price increase from R690 to R749pm. In addition, there is a “downgrade” fee of R1000 should I want to revert to the initial package that I had signed up for.
It’s one thing to affect a price increase, but it is ********* to upgrade a customer’s service and then charge them a fee to revert to the original package.
There were no communications sent/received in this regard until I queried it with Ballito ISP in March 2024.
I have reached out to Link Layer multiple times and do not receive any response. Ballito ISP have washed their hands of this matter saying that they are simply acting against the instruction of Link Layer. I have lodged this with the National Consumer Council who have been trying to get a hold of Link Layer but are also not receiving any response.
