31 Dec 2025, 15:32I signed up for fibre with Home-Connect approximately two weeks ago at a monthly price of R508, which was a key factor in my decision to proceed. My first payment is only due in January 2026.
I have now received an email advising that the monthly price will increase to R718 from February 2026, effectively before I have even completed my first billing cycle. This represents a significant increase shortly after signup and was not clearly disclosed at the time of contracting.
Had this increase been communicated upfront, I would not have proceeded with the installation. This feels like classic bait-and-switch behaviour, where a consumer is induced to sign up at one price, only for the price to change almost immediately afterwards.
In addition to this, my experience with customer care has been poor. Queries are handled slowly, explanations are vague, and there is no accountability or willingness to properly address concerns. When raising the pricing issue, the response was dismissive and simply blamed the Fibre Network Operator, with no regard for consumer protection or fair contracting principles.
I believe this conduct is unfair and potentially in contravention of the Consumer Protection Act, particularly regarding transparent pricing and unilateral price changes.
I am requesting one of the following reasonable resolutions:
• The original agreed price of R508 be honoured for a reasonable period or the contract term, or
• Cancellation without penalty or charges, including no clawback of installation costs.
I am posting this here to warn other consumers and to seek a fair resolution.
