Lets blame Forgfoot for our failed Service Migration
My internet connection stopped working on Monday morning 3:57 on 6th of May 2024. I used the whatsapp channel to report the issue but was directed to download the Home Connect App instead. Downloaded the App and created an issue report, but was unable to see it in the App. I then phoned the Home-Connect support centre and was told there was a Frogfoot outage in the Western Cape, all affected clients would be down. On Tuesday I phoned the Support centre again as my service was still down, I asked if they could give me any indication of the problem, or how long they expect it to take to resolve, they simply gave me the same response as the day before. I asked why they were not posting the same to their public network outage page, but did not get any response. I called Frogfoot and they did a quick test and confirmed they were able to access my ONT device successfully - this made sense since all light were green and the rest of the Frogfoot customers in my street with other ISPs are unaffected. I called Home Connect Support again and asked them why they were blaming Frogfoot, when Frogfoot says the connection to my house is unaffected? They said that I should not belive Frogfoot and that they were "****s" - my response was that that is an unexpected statement, since they are using them as a service provider. The support staff were unable to give me any further details and promised to phone me back with an update - they never did. Later on Tuesday I received the first call from Home-Connect, in response to the support service request I had made in the app, they simply phoned to confirm that there was a Frogfoot outage affecting me -they were unable to share any further details. On Wednesday morning 8 May 2024 my internet is still down. I called the contact centre again and reach the same consultant that promised they would phone me back. This time they wanted me to do troubleshooting by unplugging my router and connecting the network cable directly to my mac to manually dial a PPPoE connection as a test, this request while they are fully aware of an outage affecting many customers, was not appreciated from my side. The agent then created a Frogfoot service request *** for my link which has an issue. The agent then re-iterated that Home-Connect does not have anything to do with the outage and they just needed to wait for Frogfoot - no indication of a resolution time. I refused to accept their response and requested more detail about the issue, to which the agent responded explaining that Home Connect had done a planned server migration from "safhost" to "Afrihost" and that there had been issues since. I called them out and asked how that was related to Frogfoot at all? Why was Home Connect customers not notified about a planned service affecting migration? Why when it was clear that the migration was unsuccessful did they not roll back? Why is my internet still affected? Why are you blaming your service provider instead of taking ownership for your network management?
I’m waiting for Home-Connect leadership to contact me to explain what happened here, and to answer all the questions I posed in my initial post. It seems after all that I was accurate in my title selection. I also wonder how many other customers you disconnected the same way?
