Stay away from Elite Mobile!

I find it beyond incredulous that Elite Mobile is still freely doing business in South Africa and has not been shut down by the National Consumer Commission. After being contacted by a telemarketer who brought me under the impression she was from Vodacom, and another who pretended to wrap up the cell phone contract they offered me, I learned that I had been sold some ridiculous "add-on" product that I had never wanted or requested - a funeral or death-benefit of sorts. I never got the phone (apparently had reached the limit of contracts for an individual). After writing hysterical letters threatening legal action and media exposure, making multiple phone calls – even trying to get help from Vodacom, without success – the debit order is happily going off every month and I seem to be able to do absolutely nothing about it.

When I started surfing the web to check this out, realising that I could not possibly be the only one who had fallen for this con, I was astounded by the amount of people in similar situations.

Is this for real or did I get sucked into a Kafka novel?
