Do Not Deal with Elite Mobile, an alleged agent and or franchise holder of Vodacom

During mid-March 2021 my wife received a call from "an agent for Vodacom" (also using the word "franchise") offering a special upgrade for "longstanding and loyal clients of Vodacom". From this statement we assumed that it was a call from Vodacom because the agent had total access to our Vodacom usage history. The call was passed to me as the account holder and person who pays for our two phone accounts. It was confirmed that we both had fully paid up devices that we did not wish to upgrade. Nevertheless, the agent (Sweetness, if I recall correctly) guaranteed that our monthly contract costs would "definitely be lower" if the upgrade was accepted. As it turns out, our monthly costs which previously included overseas calls and MMSs, will increase by an average of R214 per month (inc. VAT) or R5136 over the contract period of 24 months. Under the new contract, I have also been deprived of the facility to make overseas calls or send MMSs without "topping up" my airtime. (i.e. "pay as you go"). This is certainly not recognition of my many years of loyalty to Vodacom and essentially boils down to misselling (the act of selling something to someone when it is not necessary or not suitable for them). Vodacom should be made very aware of the acts of their "agents" or "franchise holders", such as Elite Mobile, based in Durban, KZN.
