Wilgers Hospital
Based on recent customer reviews, Wilgers Hospital is drawing significant criticism, with customers consistently mentioning long emergency unit waiting times, poor communication, and a perceived lack of urgency for critically ill patients. A recurring theme is frustration with billing and administration, including incorrect medical aid codes, late invoices, and unexpected demands for payment months after treatment. Several reviewers describe nursing staff as dismissive, rude, or unprofessional, particularly during night shifts and in critical care areas. While some acknowledge that medical treatment itself can be effective, administrative and emergency care experiences dominate the negative sentiment.

Had an emergency for my child around March. Paid all the expenses I had with them. Letter in August I receive a call from Credit Collectors that I owe the hospital. No invoice came, no phone calls made. I decided to call the hospital and find out how and why... Only to find out that I need to pay for medical what not ( gloves) that were used on that day. I asked why wasn't I sent an invoice, the lady from the receptionist I called said that was done by the Head office. I called the head office several times and they provided me with a number I don't use and they claim they receive it from the Hospital. When I spoke to the lady from the hospital she had my correct details yet the head office provided me with the number I do not know. And they apparently send sms and they don't have my email where as the hospital has all my information. How did the credit collectors call me while the Head office is the one handing over my bills for collection. Called the head office several times and as soon as I get to the agent and explain my situation, they hang up the phone... Utterly nonsense.

Medical Negligence!!!! 30th March 2026 , I was admitted via casualty and that evening I noticed I was hooked up to another patient's IV line still with her Saline and Antibiotics attached!! and this was in the Materny ward ... I will NEVER refer anyone to this hospital ever !!!!!!!!! Management also not taking accountability for this either , they rather sweep this under the carpet by saying these errors happen daily in all hospitals !!! NOT ON !!!!!! .......... and this is not even half of the issues resulting from the Hospital staffs error ... try being as sick as a dog from ARV's because of the error, the trauma , loss of income , tests......we pay medical aid to be able to go to a private hospital.

My dad was in for a urgent operation 14 July 2025. The case manager of Wilgers Hospital submitted an incorrect code to medical aid. January 2026 received a statement need to pay in. When I had a look at the medical statement it says prosthesis which was not used. The dr Sended a motivational letter which was submitted to medical aid. Case Manager of Wilgers need to amend the claim with the correct code. Tried to short this out from February. Medical aid approved the claim but now it is as stale because apparently the claim was submitted after 4 months. Tried phoning with no answer and then the lady who does answer is very arrogant. I am refusing to pay this account as this is not my fault. I do not submit codes to medical aid. This is the case manager who need to sort out this claim and amend it with medical aid so that this account can be paid As I have received an email again on the 21 April 2026 to pay. When the case manager told me it was approved I must ignore the emails. But medical aid did not pay the R 3736.50. And nothing is being done. This claim was submitted on the 14 July 2025 so it is not a new claim and it is done under PMB.

We brought my 79-year-old mother to the emergency unit at Life Wilgers Hospital at 16:15 pm Thursday 05 March 2026 with an urgent referral from her doctor stating she needed to be admitted. Despite this, she remained in the emergency unit for over 9 hours and was only admitted at 01:15 am Friday morning 06 March 2026. During this time she was placed on multiple drips, clearly requiring treatment and monitoring, yet no decision was made for hours about admitting her. After the fourth drip, the doctor requested further blood tests before deciding on the next step. We then waited a long time for someone to draw the blood. My husband eventually had to go and ask staff to assist. Several nurses were sitting while one nurse was helping another patient, and they seemed irritated when he asked if someone could please help. The biggest problem was the complete lack of communication. Staff walked past constantly but nobody explained what was happening or what the next step would be. My husband even spoke to the Emergency Manager, yet nothing changed and the situation was still not handled with urgency. For a very sick elderly patient, this experience was extremely stressful and unacceptable. We would appreciate a response from hospital management explaining how a patient with an urgent referral could wait more than 9 hours in emergency without proper communication or urgency. If necessary, we will escalate this matter through the appropriate patient complaint channels.

This hospital should be shut down, absolutely terrible administration and staff. Months later you'll get a final letter of demand (as the first notice/statement/invoice) for individual hospital bills that do not make sense, and are exuberant over and above medical aid settlement. Dr Mathonsi is a terrible Dr due to her immature behaviour, and will put your life at risk, we almost suffered a fatality due to her incompetence. Nurses are loud in the evenings when patients are meant to sleep, when asked questions about prescribed tests they don't know anything. Absolutely disgusting behaviour in this hospital.

One star, no wait. Zero stars. 0. Extremely poor hospital. The nurses are so rude and talk to patients as bad as they can. It is in the ICU CARDIO. Nurses was so rude to a person who was so weak, critical, almost dead. I was in the ICU in the bed next to him. While they were so rude to him, he keep on saying to them that he in not rude and bad, while as how this nurse made him out to be so bad and rude. A black nurse. I was almost crying. Almost all, on the day shift, was making fun of me and they were laughing at me when they saw my private parts while I was sitting in bed. I was so belittled when I realized they were laughing at me, but wait, there's more... If they were not laughing at me it is because the person next to me who is very sick and weak, was throwing up and other symptoms with his bowel. Almost all, no wait, all of the black day shift, was talking so hard and laugh, a hell of a noise, so bad that the patients in ICU CARDIO can not rest and be restful in the ICU where there it is supposed to be quiet because the patients are extremely sick and are sleeping and resting. After my post on social media, I mentioned that my arm feels very bloated and painful when the heartrate monitor was on and my arm, my arm was red and hot when it was taking my blood pressure, she told me that I am the only one who is complaining. Her name is Ester, right? And black. The Main nusce come to me straight away. While the main nurse was attempting to motivate and warn me to, don't know what, to intimidate me because I expose them, there was another mother and her daughter in ICU complaining to main nurse or 2nd in charge about how awful Wilgers hospital or service is. Nurses cover up nurses and their poor performance. This is why you never will hear about hospital poor performance. The main nurse knew I had a heart attack which is very serious and a threat to my life, she still came to me with her serious talks and warning. She did not concern herself with my condition and ask for my excuse because I tell on them. I could have been dead and they will still come to me and ask for my forgiveness. It all sprouted from the excruciatingly bad mouthing of the person next to me who was very, very sick and they still verbally abuse him and mistreated him.
