Debt collection on a service i never received

I signed up for a data package, and completed there online contract. It said i needed to send through documents to complete this transaction. As i never had this documentation handy i decided to let it laps.<br> Never used the account since i never got access details.<br> They said i would be debited but never was, since i figured i never complete their request for documents i figured it would nullify the contract. <br> Nobody contacted me or even phoned me about sending in documents.<br> Now a couple of months later i have been handed to debt collection.
