Based on recent customer reviews, Capitec Bank faces overwhelming criticism across almost every service area. Customers consistently report accounts frozen for months without explanation, ATM deposits and cash sends that disappear, and disputes closed without resolution. Staff & Branch Experience (2.1) emerges as the only relative bright spot, with individual consultants named for genuine care. However, Transactions & Dispute Resolution (0.8) and Account Access & Management (0.9) reflect systemic breakdowns that leave clients locked out of their own money.
Top Strengths:
- β’Staff & Branch Experience: Individual consultants are repeatedly praised by name, including Tommy, Terry, Mpho, Kirstin and Sedikana, and Smart ID applications are often completed in minutes. However, many branches cannot reach head office departments, so clients return several times without resolution, and rude treatment is reported at multiple locations.

Capitec business card
Capitec Business Card Department, I wish to express my dissatisfaction with the delay in receiving my business card, which I requested in April now it's October. Despite several scheduled delivery appointments, CCD Couriers repeatedly fails to arrive at the agreed times. The lack of communication and urgency is unacceptable and highly inconvenient.

Complaint: Capitec Incorrectly Marking My Account as "In Arrears" Before My Payment Due Date
I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with the customer service I received from Capitec regarding my *** and payment date. Today, 23 October, I logged into the Capitec app and noticed that my *** is showing as "in arrears." This is extremely concerning because my salary is only due to be paid on 26 October, and therefore the payment has not even become due yet. I contacted Capitec customer service to understand why my *** is already being classified as being in arrears. Unfortunately, I received conflicting information from the consultants I spoke to. I was told that their system reflects my employer's payment date as the 25th, and that I would need to provide my employment contract as proof that my salary is paid on the last day of the month. What concerns me is that the consultants themselves indicated that the *** should apparently show as "pending" rather than "in arrears" at this stage. If the payment is still pending and the due date has not yet passed, why is my *** already being reported or displayed as being in arrears? I am also extremely unhappy with the rude and irritated manner in which some of the consultants dealt with my query. I was simply trying to understand why my *** was being classified as being in arrears when my salary payment date has not yet arrived. This is not just a minor issue. An "in arrears" status can have serious consequences for a customer's financial profile and reputation. I feel that my name and credit standing are being negatively affected unnecessarily and prematurely, when I have not even reached the payment date. I would like Capitec to urgently: Investigate why my *** is showing as "in arrears" on 23 October when my payment is only due on 26 October. Correct the status if it has been incorrectly classified. Confirm whether any arrears information has been reported to any credit bureau and, if so, correct it immediately if it was reported incorrectly. Clarify why I am being asked to provide my employment contract when the issue appears to be related to Capitec's records of my salary payment date. Address the poor and disrespectful customer service I received. I have been trying to resolve this matter as a responsible customer, but the way this situation has been handled has left me extremely disappointed and frustrated. Capitec, I need this matter investigated and corrected urgently

Absolutely appalling treatment of a customer and her minor child
After two visits to the branch where Capitec refused to close my personal account, I am now dealing with an even more distressing situation: Capitec closed my daughter's account without notifying us. Their explanation was that neither my cell number nor my husband's is registered to her account. Despite completing biometrics in the branch and producing my ID, I was refused information about which number was allegedly linked to my minor child's account. When I asked how we could access the funds in her account, I was instructed to provide proof of my own bank account so the money could be transferred. I complied, following instructions from both the branch and the ***** department. Both interactions were recorded. Yet I subsequently received emails refusing to facilitate an external transfer and telling me to transfer the funds myself. How exactly am I supposed to do that when Capitec has closed the account without notification and we no longer have access to the banking app or bank card? To make matters worse, the branch manager threatened to call SAPS and lay a crimen injuria charge against me, alleging that I had screamed at several staff members. In reality, I had dealt with one junior manager and two other staff members, and I recorded that interaction myself. The junior manager was the very person who had called me the previous day to request yet another branch visit, during which my personal account still wasn't closed. The most upsetting part? This happened on my daughter's birthday. She was left sitting in the car in tears because she could not access her own hard-earned money. Capitec has caused unnecessary distress, failed to resolve a straightforward banking issue despite repeated visits, left us without a practical way to access the funds, and threatened me with legal action in the process. This is completely unacceptable. Customers should not have to visit a branch repeatedly, comply with instructions from multiple departments, and still be left without access to their own money. I would not recommend Capitec to anyone based on this experience. I expect the bank to explain what happened, provide a workable solution to release my daughter's funds, and address the conduct of the staff involved.
