Bride and Co- umhlanga

Really rude and unprofessional. Terrible atmosphere. I got asked really inappropriate questions by a staff member called Natasha like if I have the money and who is paying for the dress etc. Also too touchy in the change room. Would not recommend.

Rude & Unprofessional Staff

I had a really unpleasant experience at Bride & Co, Canal Walk. When we arrived, my mother and I needed to use the bathroom but there was no toilet paper. We went to reception and were simply told “no we don’t have”. I asked if they could please check the other bathrooms for toilet paper. The receptionist reluctantly walked to the men’s bathroom to check for us. When I asked if they’d restock since it was a busy day with the 75% off sale, she looked at me and simply said “no”. I informed the manager that I found his staff to be rude and quite unprofessional. He apologized and then went to resolve the matter so at least other clients had what the needed. When I went up for my consult, I found the consultant unhelpful. I shared with her my size and preferences and asked for suggestions to screen through quite an overwhelming number of dresses. She simply said there is a lot of options I need to work my way through it myself and call her when I’ve chosen my 4-5 dresses. I fit on a few stunning dresses, but needed time to consult my stylist before being able to make a decision. The consultant then started questioning me saying “Are you always this indecisive? Do you always need someone to help you make decisions?”. I found that quite rude and unprofessional. In the end I decided to walk away from a very beautiful dress as I did not want to support a business with such unkind staff and who made a special experience quite unpleasant. I’m happy to say I found a gorgeous dress at a boutique and the service was excellent. Bride & Co had a stunning collection of dresses, but as far as CW branch goes, they have a very far way to go where customer service is concerned. I would not recommend going there.

BRIDE AND CO - HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT

Bought a dress with the assurance that they would be able to alter it. Got there for the alteration and informed they cant. Had to buy another more expensive dress. The event is 13 days away and they only wanted to help me on the 28th - 4 days before! Normal time for collection is not more than 7 days before event date. Had to beg for another date but not without the "I'll see if I can squeeze you in" attitude. Disappointing and agitated by their lack of urgency to assit because they have an operational process to follow :(

Shocking service and communication

Purchased a dress online that took 3 weeks to be delivered, despite a 2 week from date of purchase return policy. Was then told I can return the item by post at my cost to the nearest store and to send in ID and bank verification letter. Item was couriered to the store and 2 weeks later I still haven’t heard from anyone, I have called numerous times and my emails just go unanswered. So currently they have the dress and my money!!! Very unprofessional service.

Unacceptable, Disrespectful, and Deeply Unprofessional

Bride & Co Umhlanga – Unacceptable, Disrespectful, and Deeply Unprofessional I am writing this review to formally express my absolute disappointment with Bride & Co Umhlanga. What my family and I experienced was not only unprofessional, but outright disrespectful and demeaning. We visited the store this past weekend by appointment, as this is the first wedding in our family—a once-in-a-lifetime moment that should have been handled with care, dignity, and professionalism. Instead, we were made to feel judged, belittled, and unwelcome almost immediately. A staff member by the name of Natasha behaved in a manner that was completely inappropriate for someone working in a bridal environment. The very first focus was not on the bride, her vision, or her experience, but on how much we were willing to spend. When we stated our budget of R25,000 to R30,000, Natasha responded by saying it was “pocket change, that’s all.” That statement was shocking, insulting, and entirely unnecessary. No customer—especially a bride and her family—should ever be spoken to in such a dismissive and degrading way. Budget aside, basic respect should never be optional. To make matters worse, we were then questioned about why we had viewed dresses at another bridal store and made to feel as though we had no right to be there. The tone and attitude communicated very clearly that we were not considered “good enough” to be in that space. What should have been a joyful, emotional, and memorable experience was reduced to one where we felt treated like second-class people. This level of arrogance and lack of empathy is unacceptable, particularly in an industry that relies on trust, sensitivity, and human connection. The contrast was made painfully clear when we left Bride & Co Umhlanga and visited Jasmine’s, where we were treated with professionalism, warmth, and genuine respect. As a direct result of that experience, we spent double the amount we initially intended. That outcome alone highlights that the issue was never about budget—it was about attitude and how people are treated. A wedding dress is not just a sale; it is part of a lifelong memory. Bride & Co Umhlanga has permanently attached itself to one of the worst experiences our family has had during what should have been a beautiful time. Management should take this feedback extremely seriously. No bride, and no family, deserves to be spoken down to, judged, or humiliated under the guise of “luxury service.”

A beautiful dress, full of promise, ruined by careless hands and broken promises

In May 2025, I bought the dress of my dreams from Bride & Co Parkview. It cost R17,000, and it was everything I had ever imagined—elegant, timeless, and perfect for my wedding day. I was overjoyed. But that joy quickly turned into anxiety and heartbreak. When I took the dress in for alterations, the first fitting went smoothly, except for the bust area, which was still too loose. The seamstress assured me she would fix it by the next fitting. She also promised that the extra buttons I had requested would be sewn in by then. She scheduled my final fitting for October 22nd, saying everything would be ready and the dress would be sent for dry cleaning afterward. But she never called. She later claimed my phone went straight to voicemail, which wasn’t true—I received no missed calls or messages. On Friday, October 25th, I called her myself. She said she had been trying to reach me to confirm the button placement before finishing them—something I was told would already be done. Still, I rushed over for the fitting that same afternoon. When I arrived at Bride & Co Parkview, the seamstress was nowhere to be found. While waiting, I browsed short reception dresses because the Pretoria heat is unbearable—let me emphasize, short dresses. Eventually, she appeared with my dress. I put it on, and my heart sank. The lace on the shoulders was crumpled and bunched together. The lace over the bust area looked like it had been stitched by a child—wrinkled, uneven, and completely ruined. It wasn’t the cups I had added; it was the lace overlay, and it was a mess. I started overheating, and my panic attack began. Trying to fix it on the spot, she began removing some of the sewn-in pieces. In doing so, she poked a hole in the shoulder of my dress—a hole as big as my **** of honor’s pinky. I was devastated. She said she’d fix it and send the dress for dry cleaning, but couldn’t give me a date. She’d “call me.” My wedding was now just two weeks away, and my dream dress was falling apart. The lace was still in disarray, the bust area looked terrible, and now there was a gaping hole in the shoulder. And yet, she wanted to send it for dry cleaning and hand it over to me like that. In a panic, I bought another long dress that same day—spending another R8,000—just in case the original couldn’t be salvaged. I had wanted a short reception dress, but after spending so much, I couldn’t afford one anymore. After the appointment, I called my family, heartbroken. My R17,000 dress was ruined. The seamstress had vanished after damaging it, and I was left confused and deeply upset. My brother, seeing how distraught I was, said they had stripped the magic from my dress and should refund me. He called the manager, but the seamstress insisted there was “nothing wrong” with the dress. But how can anyone say that? Crumpled lace over the bust, tangled shoulder details, and a hole in the arm—how is that not damage? She later called me, spinning lies—claiming she had been waiting for us downstairs (she wasn’t), that she hadn’t ruined the dress, and that I still needed a final fitting. But if a final fitting was still needed, why did she say she was sending it for dry cleaning? You don’t dry clean a dress that’s still falling apart. You don’t hand it to a bride without making sure she’s happy with it. This has been a horrible, heartbreaking experience. A beautiful dress, full of promise, ruined by careless hands and broken promises. I want a refund for the dress and alterations as like I said the magic of the dress was ruined. I will be going to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud to see how they feel about this experience
