incredibly disappointing

My experience with Bride & Co has been incredibly disappointing, especially considering that my wedding is only two weeks away.

My husband and I ordered and paid for his wedding shoes, only to discover that Bride & Co could not fulfil our order because they did not have the stock available. As a result, I had to drive all the way to their Boksburg branch to try to resolve a problem that was not of my making.

Unfortunately, the experience only got worse.

The staff came across as dismissive and unprofessional. While another customer, who is also getting married in two weeks, and I were trying to explain our frustrations, we noticed staff exchanging looks and making faces at one another rather than showing understanding or trying to assist us.

I was then told that my time management was the problem because I had only come in two weeks before my wedding. Excuse me? We all have different schedules and commitments, and this was when we were able to deal with the matter. More importantly, how does that excuse a business failing to provide a product that a customer has already paid for?

I was essentially left with two options: drive to Rivonia to collect a damaged pair of shoes or pay an additional R800–R1,000 for another pair. Why should I have to spend even more money because Bride & Co could not fulfil our order?

I ultimately had no choice but to purchase replacement shoes from Woolworths for R800 to ensure my husband had shoes for our wedding.

One of the most insulting parts of this experience was a staff member commenting that brides can become very "amped up" or "crazy" before their weddings. Rather than acknowledging the stress and inconvenience caused by their own failure to fulfil an order, the situation was made to feel as though I was the problem for expecting a reasonable solution.

I have since been informed by Jane More, Assistant Brand Manager, that Bride & Co intends to process only a partial refund for the shoes we never received.

Let that sink in: we paid for shoes that were never supplied, had to travel to a store to try to resolve the issue, were treated dismissively, had to purchase replacements elsewhere, and are now being offered less than the full amount we paid.

Why should the customer suffer financially for the company's inability to fulfil an order?

What makes this even more concerning is that, after looking into other customers' experiences, I discovered that I am clearly not the first person to raise concerns about Bride & Co's customer service. I came across other complaints on HelloPeter and elsewhere regarding dismissive staff, poor communication, and difficulties resolving issues. I understand that every situation has its own circumstances, but seeing similar concerns raised by other customers makes me question whether management is adequately addressing these issues.

Bride & Co caters to brides and wedding parties. You are dealing with people preparing for one of the most important days of their lives, often with strict deadlines and limited time to fix problems. Customers should be met with professionalism, empathy and accountability, not made to feel unreasonable for expecting a product they have already paid for.

I am deeply disappointed in both the in-store experience and the proposed resolution. A wedding is stressful enough without having to chase a company to provide something that was already paid for.

What I want from Bride & Co:

A full refund of the amount paid for the undelivered wedding shoes, with no unexplained deductions.

A proper explanation as to why a partial refund was proposed.

An investigation into the conduct of the staff at the Boksburg branch.

Accountability from management and reassurance that other customers will not have to go through the same experience.

This is not about expecting special treatment because I am a bride. It is about expecting basic customer service, honesty and accountability from a business that customers trust with purchases for such an important occasion.

Bride & Co, I would appreciate a meaningful resolution rather than simply processing a partial refund and considering this matter closed.
