Complaint Against Bears: Incorrect Arrears, Unjustified Refund Reversal and Poor Account Management I am laying a formal complaint against Bears (WYNBERG BRANCH) regarding the mismanagement of my credit account, the refund I received, and the subsequent reporting of my account as being in arrears despite my consistent payment history. In September 2023, I opened a credit account with Bears and purchased a bed and a microwave on a 36-month credit agreement. My first instalment was deducted on 27 September 2023. Since opening the account, I have made every monthly payment without missing or skipping a single instalment. On or around 25–28 November 2025, I visited the store to enquire about my account because, according to my calculations, I believed I was approaching my final instalment. I was informed that my final instalment would be in April 2026. However, deductions continued beyond April 2026, with further instalments deducted in May and June. I subsequently visited the store to query why money was still being deducted when I understood that my account had been paid up. During that visit, I was informed that my account had been paid up and that I was entitled to a refund because deductions had continued after the account should have been settled. The store processed a refund of approximately R1,600 for the two instalments deducted in May and June 2026. What happened next is extremely concerning. When I checked my credit profile on ***, I discovered that my Bears account was reflecting as being in arrears. I returned to the store to ask why my account was showing arrears when I had never missed a payment and had already been refunded after the account was checked. I was then told that I should not have received the refund because I was apparently still owing money. How can Bears first check my account, confirm that I am entitled to a refund, and pay that refund to me, only to turn around afterwards and claim that the refund was not due to me? I sat down with the store representatives while they checked my account and payment history before the refund was processed. I have always ensured that my instalments were paid, and the deductions from my bank account serve as evidence of my payment history. I also do not understand why additional interim interest or other charges would result in an outstanding balance when the total credit amount and repayment arrangement were communicated to me at the beginning of the agreement. I need a clear, itemised explanation of how my balance was calculated and why my account was not closed when Bears indicated that it had been paid up. I find it unacceptable that I am now being pursued for an alleged outstanding balance and my account is reflecting as being in arrears when I have consistently honoured my payment obligations. If there was an error in the calculation, refund, or closure of my account, that is an internal administrative issue that needs to be investigated and explained properly. I should not have to suffer the consequences of contradictory information and possible errors in the management of my account. What I want Bears to do: Conduct a full investigation into my account from September 2023 to date. Provide me with a complete statement showing every instalment, interest charge, fee, refund, and adjustment applied to my account. Explain in writing why I was refunded approximately R1,600 if Bears now claims that I was still owing money. Correct any inaccurate arrears information reported to the credit bureaus, including ***, if the investigation confirms that it is incorrect. Provide written confirmation of my actual outstanding balance, if any, and explain exactly how it was calculated. Stop pursuing me for any disputed amount until the account has been properly investigated and the supporting calculations have been provided. If my account has been paid up, close it and provide written confirmation that it has been settled. I have done my part by paying my instalments consistently and honouring my agreement. I deserve transparency, accountability, and a proper explanation instead of being given contradictory answers. I want this matter investigated and resolved urgently. I also want my credit record protected against any inaccurate reporting resulting from errors in the handling of my account. Bears, please explain how a customer who has paid every instalment can be told that their account is paid up, receive a refund, and then be told that they are in arrears because of that very refund. I expect a clear written response and a fair resolution.

URGENT DEFECTIVE TV SOLD OVER THE PHONE
I am writing this complaint to formally report the terrible service and unprofessional conduct I have received from Bears after purchasing a TV that was defective. I bought a TV from Bears on the 15th of September. This was NOT done in-store. I did not see the TV before I bought it. The entire sale was done over the phone. The salesperson pestered me repeatedly to buy this TV. I told her clearly that I already have a TV and I did not need another one. She would not accept that. She kept pushing me and kept saying "no it's fine, get this TV, it's in proper condition" and words to that effect, until I eventually agreed. I paid in good faith based on her assurance that the TV was in proper condition. Shortly after purchase, I switched the TV on one day and it started having serious display problems. As can be seen in the video I have attached, the screen started showing lines and distorted images. It was not dropped, knocked, or damaged in any way. I did not touch it or do anything to cause this. I simply switched it on and it was like this. I immediately contacted the salesperson on the 22nd of September and sent her the video. I explained clearly: "Look at the TV. I didn't even touch it. Not drop it. Nothing like that. I switched it on. It's like this. Please can you fix it?" That was the start of my nightmare. From the 22nd of September until now, the 19th of October, I have received NO proper assistance. From the 27th of September until today, I have been following up repeatedly and all I have been told is that she is "waiting for feedback" and that "the people are ignoring her complaint." How is that my problem? I am the customer. I did not buy the TV from "those people" - I bought it from Bears. It is Bears' responsibility to follow up with their suppliers, technicians, or head office. It is not my job to chase your internal processes. To make matters worse, the salesperson has now become rude to me. When I explained that I am not going to be able to pay for something I did not even use and that I did not break myself, instead of apologising and escalating the matter, she told me that I am going to have to call them myself. She said she is not going to do that. I asked her directly: How can I be the one to call them when you are the one who works there? You are the one who sold this to me. You sold it to me, now you don't want to assist me. This is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. A salesperson cannot pressure a customer into buying a product over the phone, take the sale, and then wash her hands of the problem when the product is defective. That is not customer service, that is negligence. Now I am in an even worse position. Tomorrow, the 20th, there is going to be a debit order that will try to run on my account for this TV. I have been asking since the 22nd of September - almost a full month - please fix this mistake. I do not want to pay for something that I have not used and something that I did not mess up. Why should I pay for a faulty TV that has been sitting broken? Why should my credit record and my money be affected because Beares refuses to do its job? I am very angry and extremely disappointed. I trusted Beares as a reputable furniture and appliance store. Instead I have been pressured into buying, ignored, disrespected, and left with a broken TV and a debit order I should not be paying. *What I am demanding from Beares:* 1. An immediate response and apology for the lack of assistance since the 22nd of September. 2. That the debit order scheduled for the 20th be stopped / put on hold until this matter is resolved. 3. That Beares arranges for the TV to be collected, repaired, replaced, or refunded immediately, at no cost to me, as per the Consumer Protection Act. 4. That a manager, not the salesperson, contacts me directly to resolve this. I have video evidence of the fault and all my messages to the salesperson from the 22nd of September onwards. I will not be ignored any longer. If this is not resolved urgently, I will be escalating this to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud and the National Consumer Commission. Beares, please fix your mistake.

unhappy with BEARS
Good day, My name is Zanel, and I am writing to express my dissatisfaction with the service I have received from Bears regarding my TV and home theatre, which were damaged by lightning on 28 September 2026. I was advised to obtain an affidavit from the police station, which I did, and I subsequently submitted it to the store as requested. I then visited Bears at Protea South for assistance but was referred to the Orange Farm branch. After contacting the Orange Farm branch, they arranged to collect my home theatre. However, to date, my items have not been repaired, and I have not received a satisfactory resolution. What concerns me most is that I am now being told to make payment upfront, despite not being certain whether the repairs have been completed. I am not comfortable paying for a service without clear confirmation of the work done and the status of my items. I am extremely disappointed with the way this matter has been handled, as I have followed all the instructions given to me but have yet to receive proper assistance or a clear update. I kindly request that this matter be investigated and that I receive a clear explanation regarding the status of my TV and home theatre, the outstanding repairs, and the reason payment is being requested before I have confirmation that the repairs have been completed. I trust that Bears will treat this complaint with urgency and provide a satisfactory resolution. Kind regards, Zanel
