Notification of Potential Mechanical Defect and Lack of Manufacturer Response – VW Woodmead

Formal Complaint Regarding Warranty Support and After-Sales Service - 02 Chris My understanding from your WhatsApp message was that the vehicle could be taken to any VW dealership for inspection. (Screenshot available on request?) Nevertheless, the vehicle will be available for inspection tomorrow at 16 Empire Road / Gauteng SA Police Provincial HQ between 08:00 and 12:00 only, as Monica will be attending meetings from 12:30 to 16:00. Unfortunately, the vehicle cannot be inspected at my home, as there will be no one present during the day. Please ensure that VW Assist contacts Monica directly on her mobile or via WhatsApp to arrange the inspection, as she has not yet been contacted by VW Assist till now. I would appreciate your assistance in ensuring this is coordinated as soon as possible. In closing, I cannot help but question how this process would work if I were travelling in another province when the issue arose. Based on the guidance provided thus far, I would effectively be expected to return the vehicle to the selling dealership, despite reporting the fault immediately. Such an approach is neither practical nor customer-focused and simply does not make good business sense. As a Volkswagen customer, I would expect a clear, efficient, and nationwide support process for a vehicle that is still under warranty, particularly when a concern is reported within days of taking delivery. To date, I have been unable to obtain any meaningful support, investigation, or resolution from Volkswagen. Rather than taking ownership of the matter, I have effectively been referred from one party to another without a clear indication of how the issue will be investigated or resolved. I am disappointed to advise that during the past 24 hours I have received no formal update, action plan, investigation outcome, or meaningful follow-up communication from Volkswagen regarding this matter. In my view, Volkswagen is failing in its obligation to promptly investigate a fault reported on a brand-new vehicle. As a precautionary measure and to ensure the matter is properly documented, I have placed OUTsurance on notice of the situation. Should the fault deteriorate, result in additional vehicle damage, or contribute to an incident or accident, there will be a clear record that the defect was identified and reported immediately after delivery and that concerns were raised regarding the continued operation of the vehicle.

Disgusting service

Such a terrible received from this dealership each time and I always give them the benefit of the doubt. On the phone you clearly state what you need assistance with and when you get there you are quoted for a diagnosis already. You can be first in the queue for a simple issue but you will end up sitting there the whole day if you are not one of their favourite clients. Also shocking to hear that you can be transported within 5KM radius yet the previous time I visited the dealer for a service they could not transport me in the the 5KM radius. They have no sense of urgency, you sit there the whole day from 7 till 12 for a simple reset because their favourite clients come first.

Service Department Too Busy to Look at a Warranty Vehicle

I have never experienced such poor customer service from a dealership - VW Barons Tokai. My vehicle has fewer than 50,000 km on the clock, is still under warranty, and has now been back to Barons VW Tokai three times for the exact same issue—the engine warning light. The second and third occurrences have been within the space of two months. The previous time the engine light came on, I had to wait three weeks just to get a booking, after which the dealership kept my vehicle for 10 days. During that time, my service advisor never proactively communicated with me. I had to chase every update myself. To make matters worse, she repeatedly confused my vehicle with another customer's gearbox issue and kept giving me incorrect information until I reminded her what my vehicle was actually booked in for. This latest experience has been even worse. After dropping the vehicle off, I called for an update only to be told by the same service advisor that they were too busy to even look at the car and that they would let me know when they had time to deal with it. That is simply not an acceptable response when a customer has entrusted you with a vehicle that is under warranty and has a recurring fault. I escalated the matter to the dealership manager, expecting some accountability or concern. Instead, I was told the problem was "most likely the quality of the fuel" I was using. For a vehicle that has repeatedly presented with the same fault while under warranty, this felt like an attempt to dismiss the issue rather than investigate it properly. After three unsuccessful attempts to resolve the same problem, I explained that I had lost confidence in their ability to diagnose and repair the vehicle and suggested that perhaps I should trade it in. Interestingly, this was the first time anyone seemed genuinely eager to help. Within a short time, I received calls from two different salespeople trying to sell me a new vehicle. That says everything about this dealership's priorities. When you need after-sales service and warranty support, you're treated as an inconvenience. Mention buying another car, and suddenly everyone has time for you. I expect far better from an authorised Volkswagen dealership. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Barons VW Tokai. Their communication, customer service, and handling of warranty issues have been extremely disappointing, and I have completely lost confidence in both the dealership and their ability to support their customers after the sale. I still have no idea when the vehicle will be attended to.

Dissatisfied.

Im very disappointed in the service received at the Waterfront Branch. Sent my vehicle in as the car keys were signalling “low battery” - dropped the car off with both keys and almost 5 hours later was assured that the keys are in working order and I signed for services rendered and left. A FEW DAYS LATER: Tell me WHY was I stranded outside my car in a mall parking lot when the car wasn’t registering or recognising my keys. I couldn’t open the vehicle. Even pressing on the keys wasn’t working. I was stuck for 2 hours while waiting for VW Assist (road side services) - because it was after hours on a cold winter evening… after BARONS had confirmed that BOTH keys were in working order.

Excellent service by Ronald Mabundza - Barons VW Woodmead

I recently purchased a vehicle from Barons VW Woodmead, and I felt compelled to share what has been an exceptional experience from start to finish. A special thank you to Ronald Mabundza, who truly went above and beyond throughout the entire process. His level of commitment, professionalism, and willingness to assist was outstanding. He bent over backwards to secure the best possible deal, ensured I received maximum value on my trade-in, and personally saw to it that every concern or snag I raised was addressed. That kind of service is rare. I would also like to extend my appreciation to Aarvarn for the support and overall customer-centric approach. It’s clear that there is a strong culture of service excellence at Barons VW Woodmead. What stood out most to me was the effort made behind the scenes — the team invested time and resources into ensuring the vehicle was delivered in excellent condition, which did not go unnoticed. The entire experience was smooth, transparent, and genuinely enjoyable. Because of this, I will gladly recommend Barons VW Woodmead to friends, family, and colleagues. Well done to the team — this is how car buying should be done.

Barons woodmead does not care

My buying experience has not been pleasant - I’m stuck with a vehicle that’s not even a month old but the permit expired, the license disk is expired and passed the 21 days grace perioud. No assistance with a permit or courtesy car. I found out that there were add ons to my finance that I never authorised, scratch and dent covers for a bakkie, and warranties. I thought going to a reputable VW dealer would make the purchase smooth and stress free, but nope.
