Would rather lose a client than replace a router,

After being a client for 5 years my router has given out (this is their router they give you when you sign up with them). They want me to buy a new router instead of replacing the one that belongs to them. I told them it's ok, I will then order from a different provider as they would send a new router and they told me its ok go do that then.
