Arwyp Medical Centre
Based on recent customer reviews, Arwyp Medical Centre draws praise for individual clinicians and ward teams, with named nurses, ICU, NICU and paediatric staff described as kind, attentive and life changing, and several patients reporting fast, efficient emergency treatment for fractures and diabetic complications. However, most feedback is critical of casualty, where patients describe long waits, dismissive triage, and rude reception or pharmacy staff. Billing and administration issues recur too, including surprise co-payments, medical aid coding errors, uncovered tests, and complaint emails that go unanswered.

Arwyp Hospital Kempton park I would like to sincerely thank Nurse Rinkie at Arwyp Hospital, Kempton Park, for the amazing care and kindness she showed my little sister while she was in ICU. She was so caring, patient, and supportive throughout her recovery, and we are truly grateful. My sister recovered so quickly, and we believe the wonderful care she received made a big difference. Thank you, Nurse Rinkie, for going above and beyond. You are truly appreciated! ❤️🙏

I am extremely disappointed with the way my mother's hospital account has been handled. My mother was admitted to Arwyp Hospital, where various tests were performed during her stay. We have now been handed over for an outstanding account because the medical aid rejected payment for a test called ZNDM-1 Carbapenemase Screening, stating that it is an infection control test and therefore the responsibility of the hospital. While I did sign admission documentation, at no point was it clearly explained that this specific test would not be covered by the medical aid and that we could potentially be held personally liable for the cost. As a patient or family member, one reasonably expects that tests performed during a hospital admission are either covered by the medical aid or that any exclusions and potential costs are clearly communicated beforehand. AMPATH has advised that they attempted to recover the cost from the hospital, but the hospital declined the claim, leaving us responsible for the outstanding amount. What is even more frustrating is that I have sent multiple complaint emails to Arwyp Hospital and have received no response. Being ignored while trying to resolve a matter of this nature is unacceptable. I am requesting that Arwyp Hospital urgently investigate this matter, explain why this test was performed without proper disclosure of the financial implications, and respond to my complaints. Patients and their families deserve transparency, communication, and fair treatment. #ArwypHospital #PatientRights #MedicalAid #HealthcareTransparency

All so efficient and made the whole experience much better. Then 2 days later he had a Diabetic insulin spike due to the surgery - went back to the emergency room and was treated staright away. I cannot thank the doctors and staff enough. They were incredible and I highly recommend this hopsital and emergency department. Thank you

Two visits. Two failures. One near-fatal. Visit 1 – 9 June 2026: My father was brought in by ambulance in heart failure. The matron approached me almost immediately to sign a DNR. I comp****, believing it was in his best medical interest. He passed shortly after. I later discovered the DNR push had nothing to do with his prognosis — there were no beds available. A Do Not Resuscitate order was being used as a bed-management tool. Let that sink in. Visit 2 – During my father's funeral: My brother-in-law experienced severe chest pains with a documented history of heart disease. We went to Arwyp casualty. The admission desk was empty. No patients ahead of us. We waited 10 minutes before staff reluctantly agreed to open a file — only after I pushed. Another 35 minutes passed before triage. The male nurse in triage didn't stand up, didn't take vitals, didn't touch the patient. His assessment, delivered from his chair: "You only have indigestion." No examination. No ECG. Nothing. We left immediately and drove to Zuid-Afrika Hospital. My brother-in-law was taken into resus before they even opened a file. That is what emergency care looks like. Arwyp Hospital is not a place to send someone you love in a crisis. Understaffed, disengaged, and — based on my experience — willing to use life-and-death paperwork to solve an admin problem. This is not a service complaint. This is a patient safety warning.

Very disappointed with my experience at Arwyp. We came in seeking assistance and a referral for a child’s admission last week while covered by medical aid, only to be told that a co-payment of over R14 000 was required upfront. What concerns me most is the lack of consideration for families who simply do not have that kind of money immediately available, especially in situations involving a child’s health. It was stressful, discouraging, and honestly felt inhumane to be placed in that position despite having medical aid. Hospitals should communicate costs transparently and handle patients with empathy and dignity. This has never happened before as I was once a patient at this hospital. I hope management reviews these practices and improves how families are treated during medical emergencies. The guy that assisted us was very helpful though.
