Upgraded to 40Mbps with Afrihost – Still Buffering & Poor Support
Afrihost & some others introduced a standard internet package for all households in Mitchells Plain, Cape Town: R399/month for 20Mbps download and 10Mbps upload. While affordable, this setup led to constant buffering during peak hours.
To resolve this, I upgraded to a 40Mbps fibre line through Afrihost, expecting a smoother experience. Sadly, the problem persists—slow speeds and buffering every evening.
What’s worse is the support experience. When I reach out via WhatsApp, I’m greeted by an agent who insists on running a speed test—even when I clearly state that my issue is not about current speed, but about network congestion and infrastructure limitations. I asked a simple question:
“Could you please check if my line is affected by congestion, throttling, or any infrastructure limitations in my area?”
Instead of a helpful response, I’m looped into generic troubleshooting steps that don’t address the root cause. It’s frustrating to pay for a premium service and still get subpar performance and support.
Afrihost, please take this seriously. We deserve better transparency and solutions—not just scripted replies.
