THE WORST SERVICE: Formal Complaint: Unresolved Service Outage, Poor Communication, and Unacceptable Customer Service

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding an ongoing connectivity issue that remains unresolved despite numerous attempts to obtain assistance.

I logged a fault on Sunday morning after experiencing a partial connection issue. While my router displays a green connection light and appears to be connected, I am unable to access websites or browse the internet. This has rendered my service largely unusable.

What is most concerning is not only the lack of resolution but the complete lack of communication and accountability throughout this process.

Since logging the fault, I have:

Spoken to approximately eight different support agents Called your support teams three separate times Sent more than ten emails Received conflicting information from different representatives

Some agents have advised me that I need to reactivate my service, despite the fact that my account is clearly active and I have been using the same service without interruption for the past four years. Others have stated that the issue has been escalated to Vumatel, yet no one from Vumatel has contacted me, provided updates, or communicated any estimated resolution time.

In addition, several interactions with support staff were disappointing due to what I perceived as dismissive and unhelpful attitudes. As a long-standing customer, I expect professional service, clear communication, and ownership of issues when they arise.

It is unacceptable that after multiple days, numerous calls, and repeated follow-ups, I am still without a clear explanation, a resolution, or even consistent communication regarding the status of my fault.

I request the following as a matter of urgency:

A clear explanation of the root cause of the issue. Confirmation of which team is responsible for resolving it. Regular status updates until the matter is fully resolved. An estimated timeline for restoration of normal service. A review of the handling of this case, including the conflicting information provided by support agents.

I have remained patient throughout this process, but the level of service I have experienced falls far below what should be expected from companies of Afrihost's and Vumatel's standing. I trust that this complaint will receive the attention it deserves and that immediate action will be taken to resolve the matter.

Reviewer Update
It has been now been non-functional for four days despite numerous attempts to obtain assistance and resolution.
Since reporting the fault on Sunday morning, I have made repeated calls, sent numerous emails, and spoken to multiple consultants. Throughout this process, I have received conflicting information, little meaningful communication, and no resolution.
Yesterday, a Vumatel technician attended the site and advised me that the issue does not lie with the Vumatel infrastructure and that the fault appears to be on the Afrihost side. Despite this, I continue to receive inconsistent feedback and remain without service.
To date:
  • My fibre service remains unusable.
  • I have received no definitive explanation of the fault.
  • No one has taken ownership of the matter.
  • I have not been provided with a credible resolution timeline.
  • I have spent a considerable amount of time following up on an issue that should have been proactively managed.
As a paying customer of more than four years, I consider the lack of service, communication, and accountability to be unacceptable and inconsistent with the standards expected under South African consumer protection legislation.
I will proceed with escalating my complaint to the relevant authorities, including:
  • The Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO)
  • The National Consumer Commission
  • ICASA, where applicable
I will also be requesting a full investigation into the handling of this matter, the prolonged service interruption, and the failure to provide adequate customer support and communication.
I therefore require, within 24 hours:
  1. A written explanation of the cause of the fault.
  2. Confirmation of the actions being taken to resolve it.
  3. A clear restoration timeline.
  4. Confirmation of the service credit that will be app**** for the outage period.
  5. Details of the manager or senior representative responsible for overseeing this case.
