Request for Contractual Basis of Domain Renewal Charges

I downgraded my Afrihost hosting package to an email-only service because I can no longer afford to pay for both hosting and email services. My intention was simple: keep my email accounts active and discontinue all unnecessary hosting-related services.

To my surprise, Afrihost informed me that I cannot cancel the domain renewal while retaining the email service and that I must continue paying for the domain. This means I am effectively being forced to pay for services I no longer need or want, despite specifically requesting a downgrade to reduce my monthly costs.

I requested that Afrihost provide the exact contractual clause, term, or condition that states a customer who wishes to retain only email services must also continue paying for domain renewal and is not permitted to cancel it. To date, I have not received a clear contractual justification for this requirement.

Based on Afrihost’s published Terms and Conditions and Help Centre documentation, domain renewals appear to be separate services that can be cancelled before renewal. If there is an exception that applies to my account, I believe Afrihost should be able to point to a specific and explicit provision supporting their position.

My request remains straightforward: I only want the email service. I do not require website hosting or any additional services, and I do not believe customers should be compelled to continue paying for services they have chosen to discontinue through a downgrade process.

I am posting this complaint in the hope that Afrihost will provide a transparent explanation and either supply the contractual basis for this requirement or allow me to retain my email service without being forced to continue paying for domain renewal.
