MWEB monitoring my line speeds for marketing

I keep getting phonecalls from Mweb telling me that they're monitoring my line speed and that I need to switch from Afrihost to them. I have tried to be polite about the fact that I'm not interested/happy with my ISP but they keep calling and trying to convince me. <br> <br> This harassment is merely annoying but the fact that they're monitoring my internet speeds is creepy and downright *********. It is unbelievable to me that Afrihost would allow a competitor to monitor their infrastructure in order to ***** clients. I do not believe for one second that it is because \Mweb and Afrihost are part of the same group."<br> <br> I can't force Mweb to stop keeping tabs on my speeds and god knows what else"

Hello kamielsadien,

We're so sorry that this is happening to you.

Unfortunately we have no control over how our competitors market to the public, though we absolutely agree that this seems to be conducted in a manner which violates your right to private.

We would recommend following up with ISPA (The Internet Service Providers Association) or the ombudsman for the Consumer Protection Act to protect your consumer rights and privacy which are protected by those bodies. Unfortunately any ISP which is a Telkom wholesale provider can use Telkom's systems to check on any DSL line performance as a tool to provide better service, not for marketing purposes.

Please email us on *** so that we can assist you in any way to take this matter forward with the relevant bodies.

Kind regards

The Afrihost Team
