Hidden clauses on supposed "month-to-month" non-contracted accounts
I signed up for a 20G Cell C data card. I already had my own modem so didn't require a modem. Card was delivered, sale went through. Two months down the lines, my data requirements changed drastically and I weighed up Fibre vs the my current LTE device, of course fibre was cheaper and so I cancelled my "month-to-month" service with Afrihost. I receive an invoice a whole month later for a R999.00 cancellation fee. Upon enquiry, I was told that when I signed up for this contract, I should have reviewed the T&C's and that I wasn't actually allowed to cancel this "contract" before 6 months! HAHA!! I laughed initially and had an email "War" with the accounts department who told me to refer to "Clause 14.4" of their T&C's. Needless to say that clause doesn't exist AND where were these clauses when I signed up for my "Month-to-Month", "Cancel at any time" NON CONTRACT!?
So, I am now trying to moved my 3 domains away from Afrihost and I am being held to ransom by this outstanding invoice of R999.00. If I don't settle this invoice by the 30th of this month, my domains will cancel and they will not be held responsible.
How on €this great big planet of ours did big business become so stingy!? How do they HIDE cancellation clauses and then hold you to ransom on all your other services?
At this point, I DEMAND some form of communication with a senior person. Anyone other than an accounts clerk or other. I have been an Afrihost client for more than 7 years and I have never in my life come across anything like this!!
