Frustratingly Inadequate Service from Afrihost – Need Reliable ISP Recommendations!

I recently switched from Home Connect to Afrihost in March 2024, hoping for more reliable internet service. Unfortunately, I’ve been thoroughly disappointed with the quality of service from Afrihost. Despite paying for a 100mbps line, we're struggling with abysmal speeds averaging only 15mbps, sometimes dropping as low as 2mbps even when close to the router!

Both my wife and I work from home, which makes dependable internet crucial for us. Due to the poor connectivity, we’ve been forced to spend thousands on mobile data unexpectedly. On Afrihost's advice, we even moved our router to a central location in our home, which involved hiring a builder to drill through a load-bearing wall—a decision that cost us an additional R500, yet did little to improve our connection.

Dealing with Afrihost’s service team has been an exercise in frustration, reminiscent of the lackluster service one might expect from Eskom or City of Johannesburg agencies. The support WhatsApps are endless, they disappear for ages and if you don't reply immediately when they come back they drop you and you have to explain your entire story again to the next agent (I mean, why can't they read the thread???) - what a monumental waste of time! And, the advice is unhelpful, suggesting outdated solutions like using LAN cables or buying boosters. The lack of effective support has left us resorting to using our old router from Home Connect, which, surprisingly, works better than the new one provided by Afrihost.

Despite our repeated requests, Afrihost has not sent a single technician to help resolve the issue. It seems they are content to have us test endlessly and fend for ourselves rather than providing the service we pay for.

We are at our wits' end and urgently seeking recommendations for a reliable ISP in the Barbeque Downs area. If anyone has suggestions, please share! We need an ISP that values customer service and delivers what they promise!
