Dont be ****med by AFRIHOST!
I would like to warn your readers about Afrihost, specifically the ****s they pulled on me and no doubt more victims. My letter to Gian, their elusive CEO, was left unanswered. This is the way they ****:
1. They give you a choice of a free modem, or free first month. I chose the latter. I app**** 26 September 2018 and the sim was supp**** by them on 1 Oct. They took my first payment on 2 Oct. They claimed the period between 26 Sept and 1 Oct (before I even RECEIVED their service) was my “free” month. After threats and countless calls to their support, they reversed the payment on 2 Oct, so that I got my free month from 1 Oct (date of receipt) to the end of Oct. They now claim this represents TWO free months…. Laughable. 2. Their second attempted **** was when the first sim card went faulty. They cancelled this card, and sent me a new one. They then debited my bank account with R999 for “cancelling” the first card…which was in fact an exchange of a faulty sim… This debit was reversed several days later after a huge fight with support. 3. Their third **** is to tell you that you have “UP TO” 30mbps speed. To the reasonable man that would imply you would not always get 30mbps, but you should get reasonably fast speeds which could occasionally spike to 30mbps. To the reasonable man this would NOT mean a speed of less than 1mbps, occasionally spiking to 2mbps, making it virtually impossible to watch Netflix and Youtube without constant buffering, forcing us to either watch at shockingly low resolution, or having to download on Netflix before being able to watch rather than stream. 4. Their fourth **** ties in with nr 2, and could be their staff’s incompetence rather than an actual ****, but since they used this as their excuse for ******ing a R 999 cancellation fee out of me I consider it a ****. I pay them for 200Gb of data monthly at R 850. My usage could never get to anything near 200Gb as the speed of 1 to 2mbps simply did not allow that. The **** is that they say since I did use a largish chunk of the data, their was nothing wrong with getting such slow speeds. The fact that I could not use 30 percent or more of what I PAID for due to low speed, does not phase them one iota. 5. Their last **** was to let their service representative (Schalk) agree with me that I should rather cancel, as between them and Cell C (who supplies the infrastructure with fixed LTE) they could not provide me with the promised service – and then charge me R 999 (more than the actual monthly fee) for the “privilege” of having to escape out of their ludicrous service. Please note that their service is NOT a contract. Also note that I am in a well covered LTE-A area. I make use of their phone app to administer my account, so used this to cancel. To my great disgust, I was told after disputing the R 999 cancellation fee that if I waited one more month, they would not have charged this fee. I would have happily waited one more month. I was not made aware of this AT ALL on the app, and apparently it is hidden in some clause somewhere in terms and condition on their website….
