For no less than 3 years I’ve been on the vuma aerial fibre 1g package paying R1500 per month. Before this I was on one of the lower packages and was enticed to upgrade the package with the promise of higher speeds. Through my own fault, I didn’t check my speeds to confirm that I was getting what was promised. At no point in the process was I informed that my older router may not handle the speed nor that Vumatel may need to coke out check the line. More than 3 years later and probably more than R20000 later, I realize that my speed is no more than 180mbs at any time. It’s been more than a week of getting the run around from both Vumatel and Afrihost with both sides trying to avoid blame. I’m still not getting the promised speed even after a change to the Vumatel OMT box. Now you need a i7 machine connected via a CAT6 cable directly to the OMT box to figure out if it’s Vumatel or the Afrihost supp**** router. Who knew??? I don’t have an i7 device and like most people connect to the router via Wi-Fi. I have gone as far as buying a tp-link mesh system to boost the signal hoping to get the promised speed.

After all this, I suggest that any person offered an upgrade to a faster line, ask the right questions….
