BEWARE OF AFRIHOST.COM - VERY UNRELIABLE HOSTING SERVICE

I’m EXTREMELY disappointed in Afrihost.com

Firstly, whenever a company removes reviews, ratings and comments from their social media, you can be sure they must be used with caution. If they do not care enough to even respond to complaints on Hello Peter, you best off avoiding them completely... Afrihost.com does both... Their 1.6/10 star rating should give my views below some merit.

Last week we had almost two full days downtime on our cloud server. This was because of Afrihost’s data centre that was down in JHB. During this time, I have spoken to consultants via chat, email and phone. Nobody knew what was going on. There is no ETA, or info on the issue. They are absolutely the worst when something goes wrong. This is not the first time we had downtime that was beyond our control. Every time our site is down the first answer we get is immediately “Sorry, we can’t help because you have a self-managed server” – In every instance of downtime it was because of Afrihost’s service not our end. It’s as if the support staff are programed to make the situation worse.

Today our site is down AGAIN. We have an online application people pay for, downtime costs us clients and money. At the moment, we do not have access to the server at all. We can’t access the backend to see if anything is wrong. The site is simply saying connecting even if we try and access the backend & frontend.

Again, this morning I spoke to a chap called Barend on the useless live chat service. I had to explain to him repeatedly that the site is suddenly COMPLETELY down and we can’t access the backend. His answer is very expected. Sorry, your server is self-managed, figure it out, there is not much we can do... However, this must be a server issue on Afihost’s end as we do not have ANY access to the site or backend. How do you expect a client to “self-manage” when they do not have access to their server?

This level of support is expected at Home Affairs, not a reliable hosting company. Obviously, Afrihost does not care about their clients. I can’t wait for one of the big data centres to come to SA… I absolutely HATE working with Afrihost.

I strongly suggest if you have a site that depends on uptime to consider another provider. Trust me when something goes wrong at Afrihost you might as well retire your site… I for one will be looking at alternatives as soon as possible.
