Avoid Afrihost's Rain Offering

If you want unheard of levels of poor internet service then Rain is certainly for you! If you want to see how bad an internet connection can actually be then give this lot of ex-bankers and insurance salesmen a go. The results may just change your mind about offerings from other services (even Telkom!)

Download speeds of 0.1 Mbps when they claim 40 Mbps. Ping of 470 ms, Jitter of 860 ms. I never thought that such poor connections could exist in modern times.

The network is a shambles but that certainly doesn't exonerate Afrihost who were only too willing to sell me the product. I have been reporting this to them weekly for the last 9 months and they have done NOTHING to assist. Plenty of side-stepping and claims that the signal in my area is poor (even though I'm in coverage and even though Afrihost confirms your coverage before selling you the service). My patience has eventually run out and I'm quitting.

If you are willing to give Rain a spin then do yourself a favour and take it out as a month-to-month contract. Do this so that you can get out easily if it under performs because when it does under perform it does so spectacularly.
