Afrihost - PURE INCOMPETENCE

I became a customer of Afrihost in 2022. I had numerous problems in the first few months until I decided to become a prepaid customer. At that stage, I had a MTN SIM card. I requested to change to an Airmobile SIM card on 19 May, 2025. I was told I would have to port my number. All went smoothly. The card was delivered the following day and I followed all the steps. When I lost service on the MTN SIM card, I put the AirMobile SIM into my phone. While I was welcomed, a message kept popping up telling me my SIM could not be activated. I called Support a number of times. Only the fourth person to whom I spoke could help. The card was eventually activated 10 hours later. I wondered what I would have done if I had had an emergency.

However, once activated, I was unable to buy airtime or data. I had been told I would lose my data and airtime from the MTN SIM. It turned out that was not the case. However, I am yet to receive my R 10 free airtime and 3GB of free data that are "PRELOADED WITH EVERY AIRMOBILE SIM CARD". I have been told that I am not eligible for that because my airtime and data were transferred. One can only conclude that Afrihost is guilty of false advertising. A friend who recently ported her number to AirMobile got the free airtime and data and then bought airtime and data. Guess what? Her bought data and airtime are being used first. The promo will soon expire without ever having been used. Exploitation.

It took a three lengthy phone calls before the Information on my Afrihost App and on the Client Zone were updated. Even now, almost a week later, the app still indicates that the cancellation of the previous SIM card even though I kept my number is pending.

One of the excuses I received was a system error. In my opinion, it was more like someone who could not and still cannot be bothered. Possibly, help is not warranted because I am not spending millions every month. To generalise, the agents do not listen and make assumptions. Yes, I may have sworn in frustration to the "horror" of an agent who failed to understand a customer's frustration because of Afrihost's incompetence. I wonder which is worst? Apologies are cheap unless one can rectify the situation and compensate someone who was so badly inconvenienced. I remain uncertain what I would have done without an active SIM card if faced with an emergency.

Afrihost - Pure Joy; more like Afrihost - PURE INCOMPETENCE.
