Afrihost lack of communication is costing me 3x what it should for October
I am quite disappointed in Afrihost who because of lack of information I will be paying almost 3 times the cost I should be for the month of October. I am moving home at the end of the month of September. I have been aware of this move for over 2 months. I had even given my landlord 2 months notice for vacating our flat. One of my concerns was my fibre connection, because my family of 3 are intensive internet users.
My daughter watches kiddies shows on netflix after school, my wife and I watch netflix most evenings and 3 days a week I work from home, moving large 3D models back and forth between cloud services all day, using up to 5 gigs of data per day. Once openserve needed to take me offline for 2 hours to correct someone elses fibre, so I re**** on mobile data for these 2 hours, and despite being cautious, I used 700mb during this time, which was costly.
I had to be prepared for our move, so I read all the forums on moving fibre lines on Afrihosts website. There was just not sufficient information on how it should be done. I called in to where someone told me the steps, I followed these steps, and it seemed as if my fibre would disconnect as soon as I hit the cancel button. My wife then called in to find out what steps we would take. She was told that we need to cancel by the 20th of the month. I then thought I would contact ********** who only 3 days later responded with telling me to cancel using some steps, then applying for a new line. I asked them for specfic dates for when these steps were to be taken to ensure my connectivity remains constant, and only two days later (today) do I receive the information I had been trying to get all along: "if you make a request on September 20 then your effective cancellation will happen only on November 1st" This is one month too late. I need to be in my new premesis with new fibre and no old fibre costs by 1st October.
The new premesis also has ADSLfor my cost, so now I believe it is too late to cancel both my fibre and new premesis ADSL effective for the 1st of October, so all of this cost will add up, and I will effectively be paying for 2 Fibre costs, and 1 ADSL cost for the month of October.
I have really liked Afrihost and the reliability it offers, but I would be a fool to sign up with Afrihost for my new fibre line unless something can be done about this
