Afrihost is absolutely useless
I have just tried to apply for a contract with Afrihost but the company will not accept a letter from my bank with my physical address in it as proof of residence. I explained that I rent and do not have any clothing accounts (seriously?!). Also, where possible, I have all invoices sent to my email address. Where not possible, I have a PO Box. I have used bank letters for most other RICA requirements, including a cellphone contract with Vodacom, vehicle and home loans with ABSA, another internet account with Cell C. All (ALL) of them accepted the letter from the bank confirming my residential address and provided with with their service. While my situation is not common, all of the mentioned companies went out of their way to LISTEN, and understand. Afrihost sticks to its one liner of 'but RICA requires a statement with your name and physical address'.
The router and simcard were to be delivered today. I get a call from the courier that the parcel has arrived. "Oh", the driver says when I hand him a copy of my ID, "it must be darker because I can't read the number". I ask him to read the number, he does and guess what? It correlates. Was still asked to make another copy though (20 minutes wasted! ????). New copy accepted.
Provide letter from bank with my address. Driver: "Uhm, where is your statement?". Me: "I don't have a statement with my physical address." Driver: "Surely you have accounts?" Me: "Yes, invoices are sent to my email address or PO Box so none with a physical address". After an hour on the phone speaking to 6 different Afrihost employees they all state categorically that this is not allowed by RICA and ONLY an account with my physical address. Guess my homeloan, cellphone, internet, vehicle, etc accounts must all be ******* then...
So now I want the contract cancelled and the funds reimbursed (that was incidentally debited immediately by the way) but got sent to 3 different departments (sales?,techbical assistance and accounts), none of which could help. Then got hold of someone else in accounts that said I should log onto client services to cancel the account. Logged in to client services but there's no information anywhere on how to cancel an account (besides phoning the same ****** number that resulted in an almost 2 hour run around!).
I now finally have an email from their accounts department requesting me to confirm that I would like to cancel my fixed wireless package only to find out it'll take 14 days (TWO FRIKKIN Weeks!!) to reimburse the funds that took them less than 24 hours to debit off my account.
I'm done with Afrihost before we even started our journey together. Please use the *********ly earned interest to buy a needle courtesy of me and stick it in your eyes. For anyone else looking to use Afrihost, unless you have no other option, go directly to the supplier or use another third party. These hacks are not interested in providing you with a high quality service...
1. A ticket was raised detailing the issue. The contract was put on cancellation status and I was promised the money deducted from my account was to be paid back within 14 days.
2. 14 days passed and still no feedback. Here is the ticket response from 12 June:
Hi Emile
Trust you are well.
The package has been put on a cancellation status.
I will follow up with regards to the credit and will be in contact with you.
Kind Regards

3. On the 1st of July (today) I receive an invoice for deduction.
4. I send an e-mail to accounts and take it up on Twitter.
5. I receive a call from their help desk stating that the ticket has not changed, to please provide details of my address so they can pick up the device (seriously!?!?!).
6. After a number of phone calls back and forth I am told that the ticket has been updated, contract will e cancelled and my deposit as well as first and second invoices will be reimbursed within the next 7 to 14 working days. LOOOOL!!!
7. So we're now a month later and I am R3000 short with nothing to show for it. Enoch (Afrihost help desk rep) was really awesome though and even pledged personally that the work would be done (Afrihost, you're lucky to have people like Enoch working there because you don;t deserve him).
8. I asked about why there is no response on HelloPeter but I was told that it's not a great site because people complain (you don;t say!??) but you know what they say about the ostrich strategy though...
To anyone reading this; companies really show their worth when things get tough and problems need to be resolved. Based on Afrihost's recent performance I can only recommend you stay clear.
