Afrihost fibre rip-off
I started a consulting company about two years ago working in the project management space and opted for Afrihosts 'uncapped, unshaped, unlimited' 1Gb line through Frogfoot fibre in our area. First, they could not install the correct fibre router for about four months. The techie send could not tell a normal fibre box from the beefy one required for a business line and was here a multitude of times before finally someone with enough brains could figure out that the business line needed a different fibre router.
We probably had about six months of a happy union until it went pear-shaped. From around the 25th of each month, my 'unlimited' speed is reduced to +-100mb until I spend several hours with the techie online 'reconfiguring' the routers. What this really entails it seems is I must log in with my details and get a new reset password to enter into their system and then I can get normal 800-900MB for a few weeks again.
My work entails a lot of month-end work for companies between the 20th to 10th of each month, and a lot of data is transmitted to do our work. Probably +-100 to 150Gb per month. But unfortunately, during my peak workload, Afrohost expects that I should spend a good couple of hours on the phone with their tech support for an almost R2000 line.
Afrihost the downtime you cost me at my rate per hour is less than the worth of the line you provide me. Looking for alternatives if anyone has any good experiences please let me know. Pretoria Moregloed.
