I elected to use Afrihost as my ISP, on 22 July 2021 Metrofibre (which owns the cabling infrastructure in the complex) installed an OTP, set up the router, which was delivered by courier from Afrihost and checked the fibre connection. Everything was a go for 1 August 2021, I contacted Afrihost later in the week to confirm everything was on track. They were unaware that Metrofibre had completed the installation but assured me that everything was fine. On 1 August at 07h48 I contacted Afrihost via Whatsapp, you don’t get to speak to anyone and requested that the line, after numerous instruction to reset, re-configure and switch off the router,, re-activate the line, wait fifteen minutes, wait twenty minutes, ad nauseam, at 16h08 that afternoon I was still not online. On 2 August 2021 I again contacted Afrihost to inform them I had successfully activated the line, but there was no wi-fi, after countless instructions to do all the things I did yesterday and hours later still no wi-fi, I asked if they could send someone to have look, they said they first have to determine what is wrong. I must add in the meantime, every so often you are dropped from the system and you start over with a new consultant, who requests your ID number, etc, etc, In any case, Tuesday finished, exhausted, no wi-fi. Wednesday 3 August, I contacted Afrihost at 08h14 and we go through the motions again, countless screenshots of OTP indication lights, label of router, on an on with no success, at 12h14, I called it a day. Definition of madness or stupidity is to repeat the same thing over and over and expect a different result. I contacted Afrihost customer and informed them I wanted to cancel the whole affair, this you have to do online and I have no wi-fi, luckily I Iasked someone to do it for me. They also told me I would have to pay for the whole of August but I could use the internet until then, I have no wi-fi on their router, the ethernet cable to the television worked, I could see Youtube and Netflix, I had to ask three times what I should do regarding their router, I was told you need to go to their website and process the return there. So I have learned a lesson, I paid R249.00 for the delivery of a router, they deducted R868.06 today 5 August 2021 and I have to pay R249.00 to return their router to them. R1366.06 for no service, I hope they don’t deduct any money in September.
