Afrihost billed me for Afrihost Plus since Oct 2017 and won't reverse the charge to my credit card. I did not sign up for Afrihost Plus (they refuse to show me proof of my sign-up as it does not exist). I want someone senior to reverse the full charge.

Afrihost have charged me for Afrihost Plus since Oct 2017 on top of my Mobile S package. I only subscribed to Mobile S and did not sign up for Afrihost Plus. I have been billed incorrectly for R1 661. Afrihost claim that because I only noticed this incorrect charge to my credit card now, in Feb 2019, that I am not entitled to a refund. They have credited me for three months payment (just over R300), but this is not sufficient. It is principally incorrect to secretly charge someone for a service they did not sign up for or consent to. My bank account changed in Feb (which was linked to my Mobile S debit order), and so I was paying more attention to my debit orders in Feb and noticed a funny additional charge to my credit card. My credit card was only loaded on their system in order to facilitate ad hoc payments by myself for data or airtime top-ups, and I have no idea how they obtained permission to debit my credit card monthly with these payments for Afrihost Plus. This is why I didn't notice it at first - as I have a lot of amounts linked to my credit card. Afrihost cannot show me proof of my consent to being charged or signed up to this service when I ask for it (I know it is not there). Wendy Noble from the Accounts Department, who is apparently quite senior there, informed me that I cannot expect Afrihost to go back over a year to show I signed up for the service - shouldn't businesses be able to recall this information if it exists? Her claim was I should have noticed this sooner and because it is so late, they cannot go back and reverse the incorrect charge. I work for a company, and where a client finds an error, where it is our fault, we go back and correct it, no matter how far back. This is not an acceptable excuse in my mind, especially given the fact that I did not consent to this charge or service and when I have asked Afrihost (including Wendy) for this proof, they get very defensive and won't give it to me (Wendy put the phone down on me and said before she did that she would look into it (to find proof of my sign-up) but then she didn't and just sent me an email saying they would refund me for three months and that the reason they can't fully reverse the charge is because I noticed so late and also because I used the additional data. I cannot pull my data history that far back to see if I used any of the additional data with the Afrihost Plus (the service apparently doubles your data monthly so my usual 2GB per month allowance would have been doubled to 4GB per month). The thing is, I seldom reach my 2GB per month given to me by Mobile S, as I have fibre and work and at home, so I highly doubt I did use the additional data at all, but if I did without knowing, my argument is this does not preclude my from getting a full fee reversal. I don't check my data allowance and continued using my phone in the normal way without me being aware I had Afrihost Plus or additional data. If they billed me for something I didn't consent to and was unaware of, and I accidentally used some of it without knowing I had something extra to use, I should still, as the customer, be refunded for the service provider signing me up for something I did not agree to. I wonder how many other Afrihost clients this has happened to, where Afrihost hopes they won't notice they have been **********ly charged until it is "too late" in their mind to find proof of the non-existent sign-up and to refund the client. I only noticed this when I pulled a full invoice history since October 2017 this month and I did not even know what Afrihost Plus was when I read what the additional charge relating to. This is not me trying to get a free service, this is a client upset for being charged for something that I did not sign up for or know about. I KNOW I did not consent to this, as I was satisfied with my Mobile S package and found 2GB of data more than enough. I would like someone more senior than Wendy Noble to address this and process the full refund of R1 661 to my credit card. This is ********* behaviour by Afrihost and I want to draw other clients' attention to this in case this has happened to you too.
