Afrihost ~ Bad service is what you get here.
Afrihost really bad service I have been a customer of Afrihost for years and recently on 2 October 2017 decided to get a fibre connection to my home. I selected a 4/1Mbps service and it offered me a free installation and a WiFi Router AND a 250Mb DataForAll SIM
The fibre network provider was onsite Wed 4 October and promptly completed the installation and provide me with a login to their FibreHoods network tool which reflected that it was configured and waiting the ISP…. That being Afrihost. Then I waited and waited. Nothing from Afrihost! After several emails to their support desk (no response) I tried the call centre route…. An hour later I was connected to an operator who then have me the Afrihost activation process. They may be in the communications business but they sure cannot communicate with their customers at all.
So now the fibre is working but the upload speed is only 70% of what is sold. Several trouble tickets later and another hour call they try and tell me but it is Up To 1Mbps and that they did not say it WAS 1Mbps…. And then tried to tell me it was probably due to the distance from the exchange…. Now wait a minute. This is the same excuse they use on ADSL Copper service. If you can send 4Mbps of data one direction how can you not send 1Mbps of data in the other direction?
Ok this fibre service is working (not at the “sold” speed but also comes with a 250Meg DataFor All SIM. What is happening to this service…. They claim it was delivered and is working. Really? Who signed for it and what RICA documents were provided? They are still clueless what is going on this part of the order…37 days later. Then I try and upgrade the line to a 20/20 Mbps service on 1 November…… Fibre hoods changes the config within 24 hours and I’m still waiting for Afrihost 7 days later…. And this is a soft configuration? Your service is really bad.
Now don’t think you can just switch ISP’s. No! You need to pay a R1,700 cancellation fee for the installation and the router and SIM (that was not delivered).
Well I think it is absolutely worth paying the R1700 just to get rid of your ****py service!
