3G Device but only get 2G reception from MTN sim
I got this very lovely deal at Afrihost for double data in May 2014 and all work well up to September 2014. I need the 3G for Work more than at home so it is important for the device to work. I work in JHB CBD Commissioner street and you would think that reception would be up to standard but for some Reason MTN only has 2G available. At first I could only work up to 11h00 after that there was no reception on 2G not even to mention 3G now I struggle to get 2G working at 9h00 in the morning. I've logged a complaint in September with Afrihost seeing that they are the main service provider but I all reply I got was that MTN hasn't come back with and answer although they have to follow up after 3 weeks if no answer received. The great deal of double data ended in December 2014 so I had to take the new package from Afrihost because I need more data to try and re-try to download or to try and re-try to open a site on the internet. Calls logged with no clear answer from Afrihost - only reply if I query. 23 Sept FIH-***3, 11 Nov YGN-***2, 20 Nov LUU-***3, 22 Jan 2015 YWT-***5. Why do I have a 3G device but MNT reception is only 2G when will MTN upgrade to 3G.
We apologise for the problems you have had with your network coverage.
As you you know, our mobile data provides access to MTNs network as is, any discrepancies with the reported coverage and the reality will need to be investigated. In your case, a coverage query will need to be logged with MTN to investigate what has changed. Tall buildings can interfere with the signal as well as congestion in the area.
You can set the device to 3G only and test. We would also advise that you log a coverage query directly with MTN on their website so their coverage team can begin the investigation. We will then be happy to follow up with you once you have done this.
You can email us the MTN provided reference number to ***. You are also welcome to contact us if you have any further questions.
