Utterly Useless!
I first want to start by sharing some of my background so you can see that I know what I am talking about.
I started working in the IT field in 1990. Yeah, that means I have 32 years of experience.
My first network access was using the X.25 Packet Switched protocol. I worked for Telkom for a few years. I was part of the team that originally brought the Internet to South Africa. My first home Internet access started with a 300 Baud Modem. I upgraded every time a new and faster model came out. I have had ISDN as well as just about every speed DLS that has ever been available.
I have been around the block many times and know my way around.
I signed up to Zoom fiber on the very first day that pre-orders became available.
My line was installed in late June and went live on 30 June. I got a 1GB PREMIUM line from one of the local ISPs. I specifically went with one of the local ones, and not one of the large national ones, so as to support local business. My monthly cost for this premium line is just short of R2,800.
Because of my background and because I am a computer geek, I run software on a local Linux server that runs a SpeedTest every 30 minutes and records and graphs that over time.
For all of July, my line was perfect. I got over 900MB on virtually every single test, with the occasional one going down to the mid-700 MB level. No issue there are all.
Mid-August, there was a MASSIVE drop in my line speed. It was not unusual to see speeds below 200MB!
I opened a ticket with my local ISP, who opened a ticket with zoom fiber. It took more than 2 weeks for zoom fiber to respond, and the only response was to run the absolute most basic of tests which I have done countless times already to this point.
For the past 7 days, my average download speed has been below 200MB on a 1GB premium line, which I am paying R2,800 per month for!
So ... All I can say ... Be warned ... The zoom fiber is proving to be utterly USELESS!
