Prohibited from canceling a contract I cannot afford!

I signed up in 2019 for a gym contract, with Covid-19 I haven’t gone gyming for a year, I never failed to miss a payment but now I find myself in a difficult financial position and desperately need to cut corners. I’ve been trying to get out of this contract and I’m forced to pay for the rest of the contract, I literally cannot afford it and I am no longer using the facility I am desperate. I need every extra bit, it’s totally unfair that I cannot get out of this! There should be a protocol in place! Why should I be paying for something I am no longer using?
