Horrible experience with cancellation consultants at zone fitness

I am a student, I have been working part time but as it is the last semester of my degree I decided to give up my part time job to focus on my studies. So I decided to cancel both mine and my partners gym membership at zone fitness and open new ones again at the end of the year when I can work again. Our contracts expired in 2015 by the way, and i was told it was going on a "month to month" basis by reception at the time, i was only recently informed by one of the sales staff that this meant that our contracts were auto-renewed monthly. I have not been to the gym for many months now, due to my studies but i have paid the monthly fees up until June, which is a ******* but I am aware that zone does not have a usage policy so I didnt mind paying. So as a loyal client, on the 26th of July 2016 I phoned the gym to start the process of cancelling the memberships, I still had to pay for 2 month's of gym that I didn't even use but I was prepared to pay for it but could only do so on the 29th of July which is a Friday. The woman I spoke to in accounts was very understanding and told me to just email my cancellation in writing to the cancellations consultant, and then I could come and pay the arrears and that would be the end of my worries. So I emailed my story to the cancellations consultant and she was not very helpful, and she basically just dismissed me because I had an outstanding balance, and I had told her that I was coming the 29th July to pay the balance as this was the only day I would be able to do so. Yet she continued to be dismissive. the more I told her to communicate with the woman in accounts to understand the situation the more dismissive this woman became and I expressed to her that I did not want to be charged for August's fees as I am not working and only budgeted to pay the remaining balance for June and july. When i asked this woman if i would be liable to pay for August she became cattish and her words were "the longer you take to pay your arrears the more it will be" Instead of giving me a clear answer. Long story short, I kept to my word, and on Friday i was there, cash in hand ready to pay for the June and July arrears so I could close the accounts and I find out that I have to pay for August as well. For so many months I have been paying these gym accounts for nothing, and now that I just want to close them because I won't be able to pay the monthly fees I get terrible service?! I will be working again in a few months and I was planning on just opening new memberships at this same zone fitness but after having to deal with rude dismissive staff I would really rather take my business somewhere else. And I strongly advise others to do the same. I have the right to cancel my account and I had explicitly expressed that I wanted to cancel these accounts and that i would be there to pay the outstanding balance. The fact that your staff ignores the requests of their clients is very bothersome. Is this how you repay loyal clients??????

Firstly I would like to apologize for the unpleasant experience you have had in dealing with one of our clubs, and would like to thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

As discussed in our phone conversation, I have logged your complaint to both the Operations & Regional Managers of the club, someone should be in contact as soon as possible to assist.
