Stay Far Far away from Zestlife

Stay far far away from Zestlife insurance. This is our personal experience with Zestlife and our opinion on how they handled it.

We took out Zestlife Top Up Cover years ago for my Mother, we have never claimed and in October 2024, after many years , my Mother needed to go to hospital for heart failure. She would have died if she didn't get to hospital. So the bills started coming, Bonitas medical aid paid the amount they had to pay with no issue and we send the gap payment on the hospital account to Zestlife. Up to today Zestlife have not paid the outstanding hospital account and we had to pay it. Many years of wasted, on time , payments to Zestlife for nothing. And Zestlife has the audacity to claim that they are "People you can depend on" and "Cover you can Trust" These statements are a joke and misleading.

Zestlife refuse to accept the account from the hospital after we submitted it several times but they wanted the account from Bonitas. I emailed and phoned Bonitas and they told me that they have nothing to do with Zestlife and i need to sort the top up payment out with Zestlife. I can understand why Bonitas wants nothing to do with Zestlife.

The hospital account clearly shows what was paid by Bonitas and what still had to be paid but it was not enough for Zestlife to pay as they were supposed to.

Do not waste your money like we did, stay far far away from Zestlife. I have the names of 3 of the people i dealt with at Zestlife over the past 6 weeks but will refrain from posting their names. It is Christmas time and i can only hope that one of the Zestlife employees will blow the whistle on what is going on inside Zestlife , maybe chat to You/Huisgenoot.

Dear Willem,

We will investigate your claim and provide you with feedback directly.

We do require documentation (as listed in the claim form) to enable us to assess claims. We do not have any integration with Bonitas and one of the documents you have to provide is a detailed medical aid statement for the claim transactions.

We do pride ourselves that we pay valid claims and if your mother's claim is valid we will honour it.

Best regards

Reviewer Update
The issue with Zestlife was finally resolved today.
The initial dealings with Zestlife was not what a customer would expected, the emails I received very frustrating and it all pointed to no payment, one stated that the case will be seen as closed after 2 weeks.
The claim was then handed over to Zadee and the explanations I was then given made sense.
1) You have 6 months to lodge a claim
2) It is my error in not knowing that Zestlife will only pay one top up cover claim per year, to the maximum value of R12 400.00. At the time of my complaint on Hallo Peter I only claimed once, a week after that my mother was back in hospital for the second time and we lodged a second claim.
3) It is my error that the medical aid did not forward the medical aid accounts to Zestlife, so there was a delay in processing the claim, I have struggled intensely with the medical aid to get the accounts to me.
4) Zestlife does not accept hospital accounts, even though in my opinion the hospital accounts are much more detailed and 100% accurate.
5) Our totals cash cost of self payment gap payment/top up cover policy for 2024 was R25 750.00 and the policy paid out R9 352.00. So in our instance the top up cover policy is not worth it and we have cancelled the Zestlife policy.
Thank you to Zestlife for resolving this issue.
