Dumbest money transfer company ever
On November 24 I contacted WorldRemit and requested a transfer of about R 350 to be sent to Thailand for a purchase of a birthday present for my 3-year old grandson.. I filled in WorldRemit’s form line-by-line, yet on the same day I received an “urgent action request” email from them that they required a photo of my ID. So why the hell didn’t they request it when I filled in the form!? They sent me an sms link for uploading the photo, but that didn’t work. After some to-and-fro communication I finally received an email that my ID had been received. On 27 November I received another email stating that my ID had been “approved”. There was no communication from them after that and I assumed that the transaction would go ahead. Yet, remarkably, on December 1 I received a notification from WorldRemit that the transaction had been cancelled, because “we did not receive a response to our previous messages” !!! What messages?? I’ve done many overseas transfers in my 70 plus years, as my son lives in Thailand, but this must rank as the dumbest company I’ve encountered in all these years. I’ve heard from friends that used WorldRemit overseas that they haven’t had problems, but I suspect that the bunch or branch doing transactions from South Africa is composed of idiots. To save other people the same agony I intend warning people on social media to avoid this idiot company like the pest.
