Dishonesty and Corporate Greed

I received a marketing email from this company RE how good their Hello Peter rating is and it brought up the memory of my last experience with them - their belligerence so shocking that I created a Hello Peter account just to write this review.

Firstly, I booked and confirm a car and two car seats for a week in Cape Town. Knowing what I know about questionable business practices and having been burnt on the matter of car seats before, I phone their offices two days before my booking to double-check that all is in order with my booking. Guess what? "We don't have car seats at this office Sir, our supplier is only delivering them next week, please make your own arrangements". This is poor, especially considering that they had obviously double booked their car seats and had no problem providing them to another family picking up their vehicle at exactly the same time.

They made me sign for a particular car and after making me wait in the sun for 30min with small children, they gave me another "cos the other one is getting washed" / "had a terrible smell" / was unavailable - answer differ depending on which level of sharky executive is attempting to resolve your dispute.

Instead of providing a new inspection form, they made wholesale changes to the originally signed inspection sheet - changing the vehicle identifiers with a good old-fashioned pen - assuring me that all is in order. Unfortunately, I believed them.

This becomes an issue when they attempt to charge me R3000.00 for bumper rash on the vehicle upon my return. They have an automated WhatsApp message from the company MD that some marketing genius thought up - sharing his "personal" number and assuring you of his "personal attention". This is following by a similar email. Spoiler: neither means of communication is actually manned by the company MD, despite each carrying his name.

The corporate underlings who service the conflict resolution channels have a single mandate: to justify taking more money. They withheld information, denied the existence of and then refused to produce the amended inspection sheet, and maintain the stance that their policies are to be followed at all cost - by the customer, and that they are allowed to do whatever the hell they like.

I've written off this R3000 as school fees for dealing with unprofessional and ********* companies, the kind that would sign off a message or email acting as if they were the company director - giving you precisely the information you need: dishonesty and corporate greed in a well (or lets be honest, sub-par)-marketed product.

Special shout-outs go to Jeanette Marriot and Mr Essa Suleman himself, as portrayed by Shaylene Hill.
