Based on recent customer reviews, Willard Batteries draws sharply divided feedback. A minority praise strong cranking power, batteries lasting four years, and quick same-day Willard Express fitment at home with no callout fee. However, most reviewers report batteries failing well within the 25-month warranty, and describe claims being rejected on grounds such as alternator faults, abuse, or wrong application. Branches including Gezina and Phoenix are criticised for hostile consultants, staff unavailable to process warranties, and conflicting explanations. Unanswered emails to Auto-X head office and refurbished replacement batteries also feature prominently.

Poor
Every battery i previously owned worked for 5+ years (mostly oem) . Williard sets a new low at 27 months despite having been treated well. Not much use having a 2 year guarantee on something that dies soon after when other products last 5 years anyway

A special thank you to Lester for your exceptional assistance and support throughout the process of becoming an authorised Willard Batteries dealership. The process was incredibly quick, smooth and comprehensive, and your willingness to assist and guide me throughout made a huge difference. I'm proud to officially have Kimbili Tyre Centre as an authorised Willard Batteries dealership, and I'm excited about this new partnership and what lies ahead. Dont buy a willard battery in your life
Willard is the worst battery brand i came across. Just costing me money i didnt plan for... I bwt a new willard battery from new its been dying on me twice a month. Untill it packed up on the 24th month of the warrenty. The warrenty claim went thrw and they gave me a brand new replacement battery according to them. But this wasnt a brand new battery it was a refurbished battery just to silence me until the 25th month finished. It only lasted 2 months after they replaced. Please people keep to the best brand which is excide you will never have problems dont be penny wise and pound foolish like what i did. I will always buy a excide moving forward

Bought a battery in Midas Razoplo and given 640 battery and incompatible to my car Jeep Compass 2013.I went to complain that the battery it's compatible to my car and was given a new one and on the way I noticed it's 640 and dropped email to manager and was not assisted. The battery it's still incompatible to my car.Went to Midas Soshanguve and the manager said 652 it's compatible to my car and even my friend who is a ex manager at Midas checked for me and said 652 it's compatible to my c*****nt emails to Midas head office,Willard batteries and copied the Midas JHB manager and I was not assisted and seemingly 652 they have the terminals are not like for my car and they make it my problem to forcer with 640 battery which not compatible to my car.I have used a battery from Battery Centre which didn't give problems only that the battery was ****** @ my mechanic and the closest place was Midas jhb. At the end of the day I have 640 battery which not compatible to my car and even Google says 640 it's not compatible my car,652 is compatible. As a customer I need a battery compatible to my car.Its either refund my money and go buy at battery centre where I have never encountered any problems with their batteries.

Unfair Warranty Claim and Customer service
I took my vehicle's battery back to Willard Gezina because it wasn't keep it's charge because it was under warranty to check what's wrong. The sales consultant,Ruben asked me what's wrong with battery. I told him that I didn't drive my vehicle for two weeks and he tested the battery and told me that it needed to be charged. I told him to charge it and I'll pay for it and I come collect it on Monday. I handed it in on Friday,2026-07-17. On Monday I went to collect my battery and the same sales consultant, Ruben told me that the battery wasn't hold its charg,Voltage and because I didn't drive my vehicle for two weeks my battery cannot be replace. He told me that I was supposed to book my battery in for the two weeks that I wasn't driving my vehicle for charging my batteryat Willard. I'm very unhappy with Willard's customer service. All my vehicle's is using Willard and Sabat batteries. I'll never use The Willard battery Group's batteries in my vehicles ever again.

Shocking - failed to standby their warranty
I wrote to "queries@auto-x" on 19 May, with no acknowledgement to date. On 1 May 2026 my Willard battery, 16 months old failed at george airport when I was collecting people from New Zealand. The battery gave no warning of failure or low charge prior to this day. Luckily a man was able to jump start my battery. The full story is in my unanswereed email to Auto-x. The short story is that the battery measures 10v not 12v, meaning to me that a cell has failed. I returned it to the retailer . The retailer confirmed after attempting to recharge that according to the tester it needed repalcement. With no physical inspection be the Willard rep, going on a photo, surmised that 1) my battery had been abused, 2) that it was the wrong battery for my Toyota Prado, and 3) that it had been used for the wrong purpose. It was some years ago when the willard rep did not stand a by a warranty on a Leisure Battery that failed withing momnths citing that I had used it for the wrong purpose, (in that instance I used it for what it says.) Even though he was in the vicinty of the retailer some days later there was no physically inspection of my battery according to the retailer. It was installed in my Prado on the day of purchase, removed only now to install a new battery, and never abused. It is according to Willard and the retailers in town the correct battery, a 639c. It has never been used for any other purpose than in my car. I am shocked at the "grasping at straws" in order to deny the claim. I do not need the money but it is on the principle that Willard Auto-X must stand by their warranty. The reputation of Willard amonst retailers in town is shocking and consistent across those surveyed. They do not wish to sell Willard because "of all their nonsense". What is sad that I always used to use Willard in all my vehicles because of reliability and long life. I have a 619 on my outboard that is 15 years old and still going. Sadly I have lost trust in Willard as a brand and Willard / Auto-x as a reputable company who do not stand by their own product.
